Let's Get Lost with The Oceanic Three
We're your Oceanic Three: Theresa, Amanda, and Kip. Join us as we get in-depth about our favourite television show - Lost! We talk about everything: The Island, The Survivors, The Tailies, The Others, The Myths, The Theories, and on and on and on, but we also talk about how Lost changed the television landscape when it came out and how it still reverberates to this day.
Most of all, though, we always come back to how Lost is primarily a character-driven show. For every myth and mystery, five incredible character stories were told. They were complex, mysterious, beautiful, and sometimes challenging to watch - but the characters and their interwoven lives brought Lost to a different level unlike anything ever seen on television.
We would love it if you joined us as we get in-depth about all the Losties, what makes them tick, why they do what they do, and ultimately - what they're doing on the Island.

[00:00:10 - 00:00:34]
We're three best friends and we love lost and we love talking, but even more so, we love talking about lost. So join us for some laughs, good conversation, and let's get lost together. You. Hello. Hello, and welcome back to let's get lost with your favourite oceanic trio, me, Theresa.
Kip:
[00:00:34 - 00:00:37]
Hey, it's Kip and Amanda.
Theresa:
[00:00:37 - 00:00:45]
And today we're talking about episode four called Everybody hates Hugo.
Kip:
[00:00:45 - 00:00:46]
Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:00:46 - 00:00:49]
Which is unfortunate, because I don't hate Hugo.
Amanda:
[00:00:49 - 00:01:11]
Personally, I don't think anyone actually hates Hugo. But this is, as Tracy said, episode four, season two. It's written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, directed by Alan Taylor. Hurley worries that his new job will make him the most unpopular man on the island. Sawyer, Jin and Michael learn that their captors are actually survivors.
Amanda:
[00:01:11 - 00:01:21]
From the tail section of the plane, Claire finds the message bottle from the raft, making her and son fear the worst. Said's exploration of the hatch raises suspicions.
Kip:
[00:01:23 - 00:01:34]
So this was the first and only episode directed by Alan Taylor, who went on to great fame and fortune and glory directing a lot of the Game of Thrones episodes, and, I believe sopranos as well.
Theresa:
[00:01:34 - 00:01:35]
Wow.
Kip:
[00:01:35 - 00:01:42]
I think he probably did sopranos before lost would. Lost? Yeah, sopranos started in the 90s.
Amanda:
[00:01:42 - 00:01:43]
Started in, like, the late 90s.
Kip:
[00:01:43 - 00:01:57]
Yeah. Okay. Wow. Okay, so any guesses on IMDb rating? Wait, how are you guys?
Theresa:
[00:01:57 - 00:02:06]
I know. The thing is, I didn't even introduce the synopsis. She just went right into it. So I was like, oh, I guess. But, yeah, last time she called me out when I did that and this time I was going to have a little.
Amanda:
[00:02:06 - 00:02:08]
I don't think I called you out for that.
Kip:
[00:02:08 - 00:02:08]
No, I don't think.
Theresa:
[00:02:08 - 00:02:11]
No, she did, remember? She's like, oh, we're just going right into it.
Kip:
[00:02:11 - 00:02:13]
Yeah. But how are you?
Amanda:
[00:02:15 - 00:02:16]
Very good.
Theresa:
[00:02:17 - 00:02:18]
Amazing.
Amanda:
[00:02:19 - 00:02:22]
You should ask how you are. You went on a big trip to Europe not too long ago.
Kip:
[00:02:22 - 00:02:30]
I did, yes. I went to London, England, to witness the crowning of the king. I believe it is called a coronaccion.
Theresa:
[00:02:30 - 00:02:32]
Coronaciones.
Amanda:
[00:02:32 - 00:02:34]
What is it in Spanish?
Theresa:
[00:02:34 - 00:02:34]
I don't know.
Kip:
[00:02:34 - 00:02:36]
Coronacion.
Theresa:
[00:02:37 - 00:02:38]
I'm not sure. Maybe.
Kip:
[00:02:39 - 00:02:43]
We stood in the line, paid our tributes and respects.
Theresa:
[00:02:43 - 00:02:44]
That's pretty cool, though.
Amanda:
[00:02:44 - 00:02:45]
Saw everyone.
Kip:
[00:02:45 - 00:02:48]
Yeah, we saw them all. We saw the king, saw the queen.
Amanda:
[00:02:48 - 00:02:50]
Did the little one make faces?
Kip:
[00:02:50 - 00:02:54]
Actually, yeah, it was really cute. Yeah, he's the best. What's his name again?
Theresa:
[00:02:54 - 00:02:56]
Louis, I think Prince Louie Louie.
Kip:
[00:02:56 - 00:03:01]
Sounds sweet. Then we went to Bruges, had some beers and some chocolates and some waffles.
Theresa:
[00:03:01 - 00:03:05]
I heard the waffles were amazing. You almost missed a flight, didn't you?
Kip:
[00:03:05 - 00:03:15]
We actually missed our train. We had to get waffles again. It was the third time, obviously. And then because we missed our. No, no, there was no flights.
Kip:
[00:03:15 - 00:03:22]
It was just trains because we were going to Germany. Luckily, there's trains, like, every five freaking minutes in Europe, so it wasn't a big deal.
Amanda:
[00:03:22 - 00:03:23]
I know. I love it.
Theresa:
[00:03:23 - 00:03:26]
I love that you can go from country to country so quickly.
Kip:
[00:03:26 - 00:03:26]
Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:03:26 - 00:03:33]
We've had the most exciting time since we've been re recording or recording again. Not re recording. We're not re recording.
Kip:
[00:03:33 - 00:03:36]
Not re recording. Just recording again. Back in the old studio.
Theresa:
[00:03:36 - 00:03:37]
Season two.
Kip:
[00:03:37 - 00:03:40]
Yeah, season two. Yeah. So that was a lot of fun. What have you guys been up to?
Theresa:
[00:03:40 - 00:03:48]
My life is so boring that I feel bad. You know when you see people you haven't seen a long time, they're like, oh, my God, how are you? What's new when you're, like, nothing.
Amanda:
[00:03:48 - 00:03:49]
You mean like this?
Theresa:
[00:03:50 - 00:03:59]
Yeah. Except the thing is we see each other more frequently than, like, once every few months. I know, but I don't know. What am I up to? Nothing.
Kip:
[00:03:59 - 00:04:00]
How's your dog?
Theresa:
[00:04:00 - 00:04:17]
He's good. We had a carbon monoxide alarm situation where it was showing, like, a tamper. Long story, but essentially it was going off every 45 seconds from, like, 10:00 a.m., oh, dear to whenever I got home from work. And I guess he doesn't like the beeping. His name is Adam.
Kip:
[00:04:17 - 00:04:18]
No.
Theresa:
[00:04:18 - 00:04:24]
And he didn't want to go outside. He didn't want to eat. He was, like, glued to my side. Tried to change the battery. Didn't work.
Theresa:
[00:04:25 - 00:04:30]
So we had to take the battery out, call for service, and they're replacing it.
Kip:
[00:04:30 - 00:04:32]
Yeah, but was there an actual leak?
Theresa:
[00:04:32 - 00:04:48]
No. They're not sure what the problem is, but usually when it beeps, it means, like, it's out of low battery. Yeah, but I got a new battery. I even instacarted it to my house and spent a lot of money on that, and it didn't work. So that's super fun.
Theresa:
[00:04:49 - 00:04:58]
And then my cat, Eevee. Yes. Their names are Atom. Atom and Eevee, like the Pokemon. And she's fine.
Theresa:
[00:04:58 - 00:05:04]
She has a new cat tree that she really likes. She doesn't like to use the basket, which is weird.
Amanda:
[00:05:04 - 00:05:06]
Like the hammocky basket part, man, that's the cutest part.
Theresa:
[00:05:06 - 00:05:08]
I keep trying to put her in it, and she gets very angry.
Kip:
[00:05:08 - 00:05:11]
She'll do it on her own one day when you're not. She probably does all the time. When you're not home.
Theresa:
[00:05:11 - 00:05:28]
No, she really likes sitting at the top, where at one point, actually, she fell asleep and rolled off. And then she also really likes there's this kind of, like, box kind of thing with, like, a hole at the top, a hole on the side, and then a hole in the front. And sometimes she just likes to sit with her head out of the top and just kind of stare.
Kip:
[00:05:28 - 00:05:29]
Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:05:29 - 00:05:35]
And then it has a little food bowl in it. So then that's where she eats, too. And Adam, luckily, is not tall enough.
Kip:
[00:05:35 - 00:05:36]
Get at it. That's smart.
Theresa:
[00:05:36 - 00:05:38]
Get it without tipping the whole thing over. So kind of works out.
Amanda:
[00:05:38 - 00:05:53]
It's actually pretty ingenious. I think it's important to note that the most exciting thing that's happened to me in the last little while is that your let's get lost toast. Plus, Dan from our important segment did do trivia last week and came fourth out of 13 teams.
Kip:
[00:05:53 - 00:05:55]
That's true. We did really good.
Amanda:
[00:05:55 - 00:06:01]
Pretty good for what was our people that really only know about lost. And we did call ourselves the others.
Kip:
[00:06:01 - 00:06:07]
To be fair. We don't know a tonne about lost. Like, we know, but we don't.
Amanda:
[00:06:07 - 00:06:10]
But maybe we should. Well, we do trivia every day, though.
Kip:
[00:06:10 - 00:06:11]
That's true.
Amanda:
[00:06:11 - 00:06:13]
That's why it was important for us to test our outside.
Kip:
[00:06:13 - 00:06:15]
Yeah. General knowledge out of how many?
Amanda:
[00:06:15 - 00:06:16]
13.
Kip:
[00:06:16 - 00:06:19]
Yeah. That's pretty damn good. We were in first place at one point.
Amanda:
[00:06:19 - 00:06:19]
We were.
Theresa:
[00:06:19 - 00:06:26]
And it was after the music round, which, by the way, super good at. Like, she knows all the.
Kip:
[00:06:26 - 00:06:28]
She got us nine out of ten on that one. Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:06:28 - 00:06:36]
It was very impressive. I did nothing. I did drink and eat ice cubes. That was my participation.
Amanda:
[00:06:36 - 00:06:39]
But it did make us think that we should host a lost trivia.
Kip:
[00:06:40 - 00:06:45]
I think we should. Yeah. Maybe we'll do that. A live call in show one day.
Amanda:
[00:06:45 - 00:06:45]
Oh, my God.
Kip:
[00:06:45 - 00:06:53]
That'd be so much fun on discord. Discord or YouTube or Snapchat.
Theresa:
[00:06:54 - 00:06:57]
I don't use Snapchat, buddy.
Amanda:
[00:06:57 - 00:06:58]
TikTok.
Kip:
[00:06:58 - 00:06:59]
TikTok.
Theresa:
[00:06:59 - 00:07:01]
Instagram, you do alive, I guess.
Amanda:
[00:07:01 - 00:07:07]
I think if you do Instagram stuff, you're kind of pleased. I wonder if dad knows what that means.
Kip:
[00:07:07 - 00:07:08]
Oh, he knows chewy.
Amanda:
[00:07:08 - 00:07:09]
Okay.
Kip:
[00:07:09 - 00:07:11]
I don't think Instagram's chewy.
Amanda:
[00:07:11 - 00:07:12]
I don't know.
Theresa:
[00:07:12 - 00:07:15]
Amanda just says that because she learned it recently. She's like, I'm chewgi.
Amanda:
[00:07:16 - 00:07:18]
No one wants me, but I know.
Theresa:
[00:07:18 - 00:07:22]
Oh, you're right. You don't say it like, I'm chewy. You go, I'm chicky.
Amanda:
[00:07:25 - 00:07:27]
You can both do that.
Kip:
[00:07:27 - 00:07:30]
I don't know where. It's like. We know you very well.
Theresa:
[00:07:31 - 00:07:33]
You can both do that.
Kip:
[00:07:33 - 00:07:50]
Well, let me tell you about this episode of lost. Now that we had that little. Okay, we have a rating for everybody loves human.
Theresa:
[00:07:52 - 00:07:54]
It's really good to know that Hugo is a human.
Kip:
[00:07:54 - 00:07:55]
Everybody loves Hugo.
Theresa:
[00:07:55 - 00:07:56]
Very important.
Kip:
[00:07:56 - 00:07:58]
You wanted us to guess it. Everybody hates Hugo.
Theresa:
[00:07:58 - 00:08:01]
Sorry, we're talking about every. Oh, why did we say loves?
Kip:
[00:08:01 - 00:08:02]
Because that is a later episode.
Amanda:
[00:08:02 - 00:08:03]
Everybody loves.
Kip:
[00:08:06 - 00:08:08]
Right now. Everybody hates Hugo.
Theresa:
[00:08:08 - 00:08:11]
Everybody hates Hugo.
Kip:
[00:08:11 - 00:08:12]
Okay, guess. Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:08:12 - 00:08:30]
Out of IMDb, I was going to say is I'm torn because I think everyone loves Hugo. And Hurley, like, as a character, they really like him, but this episode is kind of boring, so I'm not sure if it's going to be considered high or low. I'm going to say 8.5.
Kip:
[00:08:30 - 00:08:30]
Okay.
Theresa:
[00:08:30 - 00:08:34]
I'm going to say 8.1.
Kip:
[00:08:36 - 00:08:41]
It's 8.2 out of ten, which is low.
Theresa:
[00:08:41 - 00:08:43]
The one who's closest without going over is.
Kip:
[00:08:43 - 00:08:46]
I mean, is it low, though?
Theresa:
[00:08:46 - 00:08:49]
No, it's not. It's a b plus.
Amanda:
[00:08:49 - 00:08:51]
No, but for IMDb. So far.
Kip:
[00:08:51 - 00:09:03]
For so far. IMDb, yeah. 21.7 million viewers day 46 on the island. Just the first, like, one single day episode in a really long time. And we had a Sawyer nickname.
Kip:
[00:09:03 - 00:09:07]
Count of two. Can we guess them? Do you remember something?
Theresa:
[00:09:07 - 00:09:08]
Lips.
Kip:
[00:09:08 - 00:09:10]
Yeah. Hot lips.
Theresa:
[00:09:10 - 00:09:10]
Hot lips.
Kip:
[00:09:10 - 00:09:15]
They're both directed at Annalucia Rambina.
Amanda:
[00:09:15 - 00:09:16]
Oh, right. Rambina.
Kip:
[00:09:16 - 00:09:28]
I actually really like that Rambina up there. That's good. That is a good one. All right. Okay, here's two trivia questions for you.
Kip:
[00:09:29 - 00:09:36]
How many survivors does Libby say there were? Okay, but what sound was that?
Theresa:
[00:09:36 - 00:09:39]
That was actually the smoke monster noise.
Kip:
[00:09:39 - 00:09:39]
Okay.
Amanda:
[00:09:43 - 00:09:43]
What'S the answer?
Theresa:
[00:09:43 - 00:09:44]
23.
Kip:
[00:09:44 - 00:09:45]
Yeah, that's right.
Amanda:
[00:09:47 - 00:09:48]
That was sad.
Kip:
[00:09:49 - 00:10:06]
Whose voice says that's right? Mary Jo. 16th week without a winner. It's in one of Hurley's flashbacks when they're talking about the lottery on the newscast.
Amanda:
[00:10:06 - 00:10:08]
Well, it's the newscaster.
Kip:
[00:10:08 - 00:10:10]
I know, but whose voice is it in reality?
Amanda:
[00:10:10 - 00:10:12]
I don't know.
Kip:
[00:10:12 - 00:10:14]
Executive producer Carlton qs.
Amanda:
[00:10:15 - 00:10:17]
Good for him. Got a good radio voice.
Theresa:
[00:10:17 - 00:10:19]
Carlton, guess who won this.
Amanda:
[00:10:22 - 00:10:22]
Yeah. Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:10:22 - 00:10:23]
Why are you glaring at me?
Amanda:
[00:10:23 - 00:10:24]
I'm not.
Theresa:
[00:10:24 - 00:10:25]
You were staring at me, unblinking.
Amanda:
[00:10:25 - 00:10:32]
Oh, my God. We could do an audio round first. I'm just thinking about our last trivia. We could do an audio round where it's all the songs that Hurley listened to.
Kip:
[00:10:32 - 00:10:33]
Oh, yeah.
Amanda:
[00:10:33 - 00:10:35]
That was the theme of it.
Kip:
[00:10:35 - 00:10:36]
That's so sad.
Amanda:
[00:10:36 - 00:10:42]
Well, yeah, they'll all be pretty sad. Obviously, everybody will also make it.
Kip:
[00:10:42 - 00:10:49]
Yeah, because they do sing it. Okay, it's now time for Teresa's dream of consciousness.
Theresa:
[00:10:50 - 00:10:57]
Also. Okay, here we go. Oh, man. I wish someone else found the food. I see what you mean, Kipper.
Theresa:
[00:10:57 - 00:11:06]
I don't like this. Oh, my God. Jen's voice is hot. This is clearly a dream, though. Oh, it's curly shift today.
Theresa:
[00:11:06 - 00:11:19]
How long are these? Know, I'm glad that Kate said that thing about the jobs. Must be nice having something to do for once. Mike, no one is gonna let you out just because you're yelling at them. That's not how it know.
Theresa:
[00:11:19 - 00:11:28]
I like that they climb the rope. Or when they're climbing the rope, they're half pulled up by that guy Yaoza. Oh, my God. Hurley's mom. The slaps.
Theresa:
[00:11:29 - 00:11:38]
Also, why are you hiding your lottery ticket? I guess. I mean, you got to deal with it your own way. But, man, your mom is harsh. So brutal.
Theresa:
[00:11:38 - 00:11:47]
Oh, so the others don't know yet? Is everyone going to tell them about the hatch and all this buttons? Is this where you're going to keep him? Hi, Rose. Been a while.
Theresa:
[00:11:47 - 00:12:00]
Nice to see their day to day. I love her. I love that he told her because she didn't ask and it would help her do whatever she was doing. And she could help him. I like his choice of person.
Theresa:
[00:12:00 - 00:12:11]
Well, Claire sure as hell bounced back quickly, considering she gave birth maybe a week ago. Oh, my God. The bottle. You know, I love that Rose is helping, no questions asked. Everybody loves you, Rose.
Theresa:
[00:12:11 - 00:12:21]
Oh, Hurley. That's where it starts. That's where what starts? Also, why isn't there shampoo in the shower? Des showered, like, yesterday, plus or minus a day.
Theresa:
[00:12:22 - 00:12:30]
Oh, Randy was also Locke's boss's name. Fun. Ah, Hunter gatherer. Locke is back. Wow.
Theresa:
[00:12:30 - 00:12:37]
Charlie. Also, what's with Locke and citrus? He's not even flinching. Why are you eating it like this? Oh, where did they talk?
Theresa:
[00:12:37 - 00:12:47]
What's the situation? Where are we moving? Locke, stop eating the dang know. I like the idea of shifts where folks can shower. Have hatch access for 2 hours a day.
Theresa:
[00:12:47 - 00:12:52]
That must be nice. Charlie. Don't ask, Curly. That's not fair. Lol.
Theresa:
[00:12:52 - 00:13:03]
Drivershaft is a one hit wonder. Sad. Charlie talks about it like it's not his infamous. Oh, Hugo has a date. Why am I calling Hugo?
Theresa:
[00:13:03 - 00:13:08]
Anyway? Syed is the most capable. And why are we doing this? And what are we doing? Chernobyl.
Theresa:
[00:13:09 - 00:13:12]
Jesus. That's terrifying. Where are we? Why? Oh, my God.
Theresa:
[00:13:12 - 00:13:19]
Close the door, Jack. Don't be a. Michael, stop staring at her. 23 survivors. Oh, my God.
Theresa:
[00:13:19 - 00:13:34]
They have their own hatch. Not really a hatch. Not really fair for Anna Lucia to tell them off for talking when her folks are the one who's talking to them. Oh, my God, son, this is so. Know, I kind of wish that Hurley had said, don't tell me what I.
Theresa:
[00:13:35 - 00:13:44]
Wait. Lock your genius. He doesn't say you can't quit, so he's not telling him what he can't do. Interesting. How old is Hurley?
Theresa:
[00:13:44 - 00:13:50]
Anyone know? Friends. Will we stay the same if one of us wins a hundred million dollars?
Kip:
[00:13:50 - 00:13:50]
No.
Theresa:
[00:13:51 - 00:14:03]
Kip just said no. Okay, Hurley, why are you blowing up all the food? This is a bad way to do this. No one will remember every ticket they bought. I doubt this cashier would remember also.
Theresa:
[00:14:03 - 00:14:13]
Hurley, the solution isn't to blow it all up. Okay, yes, I get it, Hurley, but this is not it. Oh, my God, son. That decision hurts my heart. Ow.
Theresa:
[00:14:13 - 00:14:18]
And I got really distracted by Bernard and just wrote Bernard Hart the end.
Amanda:
[00:14:19 - 00:14:19]
That's fair.
Kip:
[00:14:19 - 00:14:20]
Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:14:20 - 00:14:25]
I would have done the same. I mean, I did. I just. We'll talk about that scene at the end. But, man, my heart hurt after that.
Amanda:
[00:14:25 - 00:14:26]
It was so beautiful.
Kip:
[00:14:26 - 00:14:30]
So those were lemons he was eating, was it not? I don't know.
Amanda:
[00:14:30 - 00:14:40]
It looked like a lemon at first, but then when he was eating it, it didn't, because he spread it. Not okay. Not okay.
Theresa:
[00:14:40 - 00:14:41]
I thought it was.
Kip:
[00:14:41 - 00:14:42]
Eats fruit.
Theresa:
[00:14:42 - 00:14:51]
Weird, because he was looking at a lime, right? And then he picked up a lemon, I think. And then I was like, why are you eating it like this? You know what I mean? Why did you cut off the top and then kind of squeeze the juice into your mouth?
Kip:
[00:14:52 - 00:14:59]
There was a moment, and then kind of, Matt and I looked at each other, and I think we both didn't know what you were talking about, but now I can't remember.
Amanda:
[00:14:59 - 00:15:05]
Can I see that notepad quickly? The one from today? Because me and Kip did look at each other at the same time, and.
Kip:
[00:15:05 - 00:15:07]
We'Re like, I don't remember now what that was about.
Theresa:
[00:15:07 - 00:15:08]
Okay, well, here you go.
Amanda:
[00:15:08 - 00:15:10]
Thank you. I think it was this.
Theresa:
[00:15:10 - 00:15:11]
Which one?
Amanda:
[00:15:11 - 00:15:18]
I wish Hurley had said, don't tell me what I. Wait. Lock you, genius. Oh, because you quit. So he's not telling him what he can't do.
Theresa:
[00:15:18 - 00:15:23]
So Hurley is like. You know how he's saying, like, he doesn't want to do this or whatever?
Kip:
[00:15:23 - 00:15:24]
I don't think that was it.
Theresa:
[00:15:24 - 00:15:36]
And then Locke says, you don't get to quit. You don't get to quit. But he didn't say you can't quit, because then he would be telling Hurley what he can't do, which, as we.
Kip:
[00:15:37 - 00:15:38]
Know, Locke does not like.
Theresa:
[00:15:38 - 00:15:43]
Don't tell me what I can't do. And this time he did not. Even though he's telling him what he can't do.
Amanda:
[00:15:43 - 00:15:44]
Neat.
Theresa:
[00:15:44 - 00:15:45]
Yeah. Fun fact.
Kip:
[00:15:46 - 00:15:49]
First of all, can I just say, charlie is so fucking annoying.
Theresa:
[00:15:49 - 00:15:51]
I cannot with him.
Amanda:
[00:15:52 - 00:15:56]
I was about to say that this is the beginning of the end for my love of Charlie.
Theresa:
[00:15:59 - 00:16:03]
Everybody hates Charlie. Not Hugo, to be fair.
Kip:
[00:16:03 - 00:16:04]
We have, except for Chris Hopper.
Amanda:
[00:16:04 - 00:16:10]
More seasons to wrap our heads up. He's so mean to Hurley.
Kip:
[00:16:10 - 00:16:12]
He's so mean to Hurley.
Theresa:
[00:16:12 - 00:16:12]
He does.
Kip:
[00:16:12 - 00:16:14]
And it's funny, because I'm like, shit.
Amanda:
[00:16:14 - 00:16:38]
Hurley's like, downfall. Not downfall, but has, like, spiralled into thinking it was going to be the same. Because clearly that's the idea, right? Is he's like, I'm under the same stress, and it's clearly going to show that he got rich and everyone took advantage of him, and then everyone was mad at him. And Charlie is the reason that that spiral started happening on the island, because he started to feel that same try to take advantage of and was mad when he wouldn't do what he wanted.
Kip:
[00:16:38 - 00:16:38]
Exactly.
Amanda:
[00:16:38 - 00:16:42]
And that's a Charlie problem. Charlie is rude to Hurley and he makes him.
Kip:
[00:16:42 - 00:16:43]
Charlie's just very selfish.
Theresa:
[00:16:43 - 00:17:00]
And he always talks about his weight. For some reason. I find it really mean, especially if they're supposed to be, like, buds. Like, you saw their friendship blossom in season one, and then he starts to make all these little comments about his weight, and you're just kind of okay. Like, no.
Kip:
[00:17:00 - 00:17:13]
Yeah, we don't like Charlie on these parts. Oh, I made a note when you had said about Kate being all like, isn't it great to have shifts again? First of all, I can't see Kate being excited to have a work.
Theresa:
[00:17:15 - 00:17:16]
No, no.
Amanda:
[00:17:16 - 00:17:18]
But I think, how does she harm others? That.
Theresa:
[00:17:22 - 00:17:38]
No, that felt out of just what I like about it. I mean, she could have been anyone, honestly. I just like the addressing that now, even though it's something, so they don't know why they're doing it. It's so repetitive, very mundane. They have something to do as opposed to just wait till, like.
Theresa:
[00:17:38 - 00:17:54]
Yeah, you know what I mean? They're clearly not getting rescued anytime soon. They've been waiting 40 plus days, and they're always dealing with, is someone going to kidnap this baby? The others, the smoke monster. So now that they have, like, it's like, the one kind of routine that they have now.
Theresa:
[00:17:54 - 00:17:56]
And that's what I like about it.
Amanda:
[00:17:58 - 00:18:01]
I like it. I don't think Kate likes it.
Theresa:
[00:18:01 - 00:18:03]
Like I said, kate could be anyone.
Amanda:
[00:18:03 - 00:18:14]
In the shower already without the way they handled this whole thing. I have a problem with. I get it. You don't want to freak people out. You don't want to bring too many people in, et cetera, et cetera.
Amanda:
[00:18:14 - 00:18:22]
But why are Jack and Locke and Kate the deciders of everything?
Kip:
[00:18:22 - 00:18:41]
Well, here's how I see it. I see Jack and Locke as the de facto deciders, as they see themselves. Kate, I just see. She just is always first to put up her hand to volunteer. So she gets put in these positions and she's like, I'm going to take advantage of this position right now and go take a shower.
Amanda:
[00:18:41 - 00:18:47]
Yes, Kate. Basically, what Kate does best in life is take advantage and look out only for.
Kip:
[00:18:49 - 00:19:09]
I hate. I hated the Jack comment about who else did you like? I get that they want to kind of sort things out before they get this influx of people, but at the same, like, it was just sort of like he just completely ignores Rose there. Until Rose is like, hi, Jack. And he's just like, oh, hi, Rose.
Kip:
[00:19:09 - 00:19:11]
It's like, calm the fuck down, Jack.
Amanda:
[00:19:11 - 00:19:17]
Absolutely. You don't get to decide absolutely everything. And Locke had no problem telling Charlie right away?
Kip:
[00:19:17 - 00:19:35]
Well, Locke only tells Charlie because he's trying to convince people to press the button. As he said, locke likes to be in control just as much as Jack does. He's up right away, first thing he says, I'm setting up shifts for people to touch my button. And it's like he loves it because it gives him power.
Amanda:
[00:19:36 - 00:19:39]
It's just fine. I don't know why this rubs me so wrong.
Kip:
[00:19:39 - 00:19:40]
I know. Me too.
Amanda:
[00:19:40 - 00:19:50]
But fine. Whatever you want to control, you don't know what's going on. You and said are investigating it. You're looking around. Hurley's going to sort through and itemise everything.
Amanda:
[00:19:50 - 00:20:01]
All of this makes sense. But I know if it was anyone else, you wouldn't feel this way. I promise you I would. Why is Kate just showering? No, I agree with you.
Amanda:
[00:20:02 - 00:20:19]
Why do you get to take advantage of something else? You should hold off, too, while you're figuring it out. You shouldn't just get to have more advantages than everyone else. What is this? The american government should be more of a democracy and making sure everyone, they need to be more like socialists.
Kip:
[00:20:19 - 00:20:30]
Okay, but I think is that they were there. Kate was there. All those people who were there happened to be there. So they can take advantage. That is sort of the way it works.
Amanda:
[00:20:30 - 00:20:31]
But that's not fair.
Kip:
[00:20:31 - 00:20:33]
Of course it's not fair, but nothing's fair.
Amanda:
[00:20:33 - 00:20:37]
But I just think that if they are going to say things like, hurley.
Kip:
[00:20:37 - 00:20:41]
Can'T touch the food, well, that's just Jack being an asshole.
Amanda:
[00:20:42 - 00:20:44]
Yeah. Jack is a bit of an asshole in this episode.
Kip:
[00:20:44 - 00:20:45]
Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:20:45 - 00:20:51]
But I don't know. It's just a weird thing and they have to figure their shit out and what they're going to do, but it.
Kip:
[00:20:51 - 00:21:29]
Kind of makes sense in the way that it's like they've just sort of fixed the computer, they've got their button pressing shifts in order. They've just kind of come across this brand new environment. There's guns and weapons and food galore, washer and dryer and all this stuff. So I guess a little bit of the chaoticness makes sense in that they're trying to figure out this brand new environment that they have to be in this brand new system that they find themselves in. So it would make sense that there's a little bit of chaotic and just sort of craziness that they don't quite understand how to navigate.
Kip:
[00:21:29 - 00:21:39]
Navigate it, because they are all very different people with very different personalities. You have Jack and Locke sort of running the show and they butt heads at the best of times, so it's like. It's going to be rough.
Amanda:
[00:21:41 - 00:21:42]
Yeah, that's.
Theresa:
[00:21:43 - 00:21:51]
Agree. I just. One thing that I don't get when we talk about jobs is I don't really get why Kate couldn't help Hurley with the food.
Kip:
[00:21:52 - 00:21:54]
Yeah, she wasn't doing anything.
Theresa:
[00:21:54 - 00:21:58]
Yeah, I'm not really sure what her job was, if you're telling me that Hurley's not allowed.
Amanda:
[00:21:58 - 00:22:00]
Well, she did say she was going to take the next shift, so.
Theresa:
[00:22:00 - 00:22:03]
I think he took a shift already.
Amanda:
[00:22:03 - 00:22:09]
No, I know, but I think they don't want them doing anything else but working on that. And I think she just selfishly took a shower while she was waiting for.
Theresa:
[00:22:10 - 00:22:15]
It's not like Hurley and Kate are the only ones taking shifts. It's not like he had to do the food immediately either.
Amanda:
[00:22:15 - 00:22:16]
No, I agree.
Theresa:
[00:22:16 - 00:22:22]
He was down at the beach, like, so, like, why wouldn't you, like. They could still do it together after her shift. You know what I mean?
Kip:
[00:22:22 - 00:22:22]
I know. Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:22:23 - 00:22:27]
It's just like, a little, like. You're right. It is a little bizarre.
Kip:
[00:22:27 - 00:22:31]
I don't like Locke in this episode. I don't like Charlie in this episode.
Theresa:
[00:22:31 - 00:22:33]
I don't like Charlie in this episode.
Kip:
[00:22:33 - 00:22:36]
Jack is kind of like run of the mill.
Theresa:
[00:22:36 - 00:22:36]
Typical.
Amanda:
[00:22:36 - 00:22:45]
Charlie's just selfish. And he so wants to show off for Claire all the. So, like, he would do anything for.
Kip:
[00:22:45 - 00:22:49]
Claire, but for selfish reasons, though.
Amanda:
[00:22:49 - 00:22:52]
He just wants to be close to her and be hero.
Kip:
[00:22:52 - 00:22:53]
Yeah, exactly.
Theresa:
[00:22:53 - 00:23:12]
Which, like, by the way, you're already watching her baby and stuff, like. Like, I don't really understand this need to impress her. I don't know. But then, on top of that, I just don't know why you would shit on your friend to get there. First of all, I would have never asked Hurley to do that, ever.
Theresa:
[00:23:12 - 00:23:27]
If he told me that, hey, I have to be in charge of all this. I would never ask. You would never want to put anyone in that situation. But then to yell at him for that, I know. And berate him, it's so selfish.
Theresa:
[00:23:29 - 00:23:46]
And I find that tends to be my problem with Charlie, is that he thinks that he's entitled to all these things. He thinks that when he asks for something, it should happen. And if it doesn't, he flies off the handle. And he's so offended that you would even think to say no. And it drives me crazy.
Theresa:
[00:23:46 - 00:23:48]
I killed Ethan. Was it Ethan?
Kip:
[00:23:48 - 00:23:49]
Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:23:49 - 00:23:51]
He's like, I killed Ethan. Why am I not a part of this?
Kip:
[00:23:51 - 00:23:59]
And he goes on about saving the baby and it's like, okay, that was 98% said, charlie, let's rein it in.
Theresa:
[00:23:59 - 00:24:12]
Also, keep in mind that you've also made a lot of mistakes along the way, but they're not throwing that in your face. So why don't you take a step back like you're watching a baby? Why don't you focus on that? You want Claire to, like. You want to get closer to Claire, bond with her instead.
Theresa:
[00:24:12 - 00:24:13]
Why do you need to be involved in something else?
Kip:
[00:24:14 - 00:24:21]
I hate that he doesn't apologise to Hurley, and Hurley gives him the peanut butter. I get that it was a montage. There was no talking, but, like, there.
Amanda:
[00:24:21 - 00:24:22]
Wasn'T anything that looked like that was.
Kip:
[00:24:23 - 00:24:27]
No, it was just like. See? I knew you'd do. Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:24:27 - 00:24:28]
Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:24:28 - 00:24:36]
But if it helps ease some of the Charlie pain, we do have confirmation that driveshaft was true.
Kip:
[00:24:38 - 00:24:42]
It's literally in the one hit wonder bin at the music shop.
Amanda:
[00:24:42 - 00:24:46]
That made me chuckle a lot, actually. I love those little connections.
Kip:
[00:24:46 - 00:24:51]
More like sucks shaft. That was pretty funny.
Amanda:
[00:24:51 - 00:24:57]
So that is hilarious to me. Another things that I think are really cute. I love Rose.
Theresa:
[00:24:57 - 00:24:58]
Love her.
Amanda:
[00:24:58 - 00:25:12]
Rose is just a phenomenal human. She's so kind, she's so patient and she's so freaking positive. And when Hurley says was your husband. And she says, is my husband. I'm like, man, this woman just has so much faith.
Kip:
[00:25:12 - 00:25:13]
Give her the Nobel prize.
Amanda:
[00:25:13 - 00:25:23]
I know. And then she's not even frustrated with him for suggesting. She's just, oh, the patience on that woman and just the love and faith and just.
Theresa:
[00:25:24 - 00:25:31]
And I like that when he's like, are you going to ask what I've been doing? And she's like, no. Is that going to help me with what I'm doing? No. Then I don't care.
Theresa:
[00:25:31 - 00:25:36]
And I like that she's not a busy body, she's not nosy, she's not running off trying to be this and.
Kip:
[00:25:36 - 00:25:39]
That, doing what she needs to do to survive and staying positive.
Theresa:
[00:25:39 - 00:25:40]
She's like, I'm going to do my part.
Kip:
[00:25:40 - 00:25:41]
Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:25:41 - 00:25:42]
Here we go.
Amanda:
[00:25:42 - 00:25:57]
So Claire is know at one point stroll on the beach, leaving her child with Charlie, clearly and finds the messages in the bottle pretty sad.
Kip:
[00:25:57 - 00:26:00]
It's really sad because it is no idea.
Amanda:
[00:26:02 - 00:26:29]
So, I mean, that's a bad sign, right? So they're going to make the assumption at this point that they've lost the raft, which is the right assumption to make, I guess. And what I like is that Claire clearly went to Shannon and then Shannon told Claire that they should talk to son. And when they gave it to son, the goosebumps. I was literally like tearing up because you can just see what if the acting that that woman does is so good?
Theresa:
[00:26:29 - 00:26:30]
The subtlety of.
Amanda:
[00:26:30 - 00:26:45]
Subtlety of the heartbreak that when she sees it, recognises it. And then on top of recognising what it is, there's that shift on her face of being like, oh, the bottle. Oh, the bottle. Right. And then just keeping it together.
Kip:
[00:26:45 - 00:26:46]
Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:26:46 - 00:26:46]
And it's great.
Theresa:
[00:26:46 - 00:26:48]
So good, so good.
Kip:
[00:26:48 - 00:26:52]
And then her decision to bury it, to keep everyone's hope alive, essentially.
Theresa:
[00:26:52 - 00:26:53]
Oh, my God.
Amanda:
[00:26:53 - 00:26:59]
Suggesting that now she'll have to carry her own personal grief with her alone. Yeah.
Theresa:
[00:26:59 - 00:27:20]
It's so upsetting and it's such a strong act for her to do. It would be so easy to be like, they're all dead. I'm going to go cry in a corner for we just made up and now he's gone forever. But instead she's like, hope is all we have left. So I'm going to just bury this and deal with this alone.
Theresa:
[00:27:22 - 00:27:23]
Strong woman.
Amanda:
[00:27:24 - 00:27:26]
Strong, strong woman.
Kip:
[00:27:27 - 00:27:29]
Well, let's talk about the flashbacks for a minute.
Amanda:
[00:27:29 - 00:27:30]
Okay.
Kip:
[00:27:30 - 00:27:36]
So I liked in your stream of consciousness about when that clerk at the SEV.
Theresa:
[00:27:37 - 00:27:37]
Yeah.
Kip:
[00:27:37 - 00:27:42]
There's no way recognises early. That's the one who bought the winning ticket.
Theresa:
[00:27:42 - 00:27:43]
So absolutely not.
Amanda:
[00:27:43 - 00:28:07]
I think you'd recognise early as someone who bought a ticket, and I think they would know what the winning numbers were because I remember growing up, my family went to the same petro and they knew their names and stuff. So if he's like a regular person there, I can imagine that they would know he bought a ticket. But there's no. I don't understand. If they even were like, oh, it might be that guy or whatever.
Amanda:
[00:28:07 - 00:28:08]
He bought a ticket or something.
Kip:
[00:28:09 - 00:28:11]
The cameras aren't going to be running up. Are you the winner?
Amanda:
[00:28:11 - 00:28:15]
Are you the winner? There's no way they remember what numbers he chose.
Kip:
[00:28:15 - 00:28:15]
Exactly.
Theresa:
[00:28:15 - 00:28:32]
No, right, exactly. Even if he was a regular, you wouldn't remember. If he was not a regular, you wouldn't remember. There's no way that this would ever happen where they'd be like, hey, store clerk, come here and let's have a chat. And that wouldn't happen.
Theresa:
[00:28:32 - 00:28:39]
I was a regular at Starbucks for four months before they knew my order and I went every week.
Kip:
[00:28:39 - 00:28:44]
But again, it's not even about being a regular. It's about knowing that they would have no idea what numbers he played.
Amanda:
[00:28:44 - 00:28:47]
It's not like you write your name down when you pick the numbers or something.
Theresa:
[00:28:48 - 00:28:53]
He won the ticket. Also, why are they interviewing him? Why are there 10,000 people around him?
Kip:
[00:28:53 - 00:28:55]
Because they know where the winning ticket was sold.
Amanda:
[00:28:57 - 00:28:58]
No, that happens here.
Kip:
[00:28:58 - 00:28:59]
Even. They always.
Amanda:
[00:28:59 - 00:29:04]
And then people always put signs up being like, winning lotto tickets sold here. It's like, okay, well, what are the chances of going to happen again?
Theresa:
[00:29:04 - 00:29:09]
But also, can we people go, let's play the numbers one day?
Kip:
[00:29:09 - 00:29:13]
No, everybody does. If it was ever picked, you'd be splitting it like 5 billion.
Theresa:
[00:29:13 - 00:29:17]
Oh, I know, but we should pick our own numbers and play different than playing the lottery.
Amanda:
[00:29:17 - 00:29:25]
Any other own lost numbers. We're going to find numbers that are not actually the numbers and we're going to fucking play those.
Kip:
[00:29:25 - 00:29:26]
Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:29:26 - 00:29:28]
Okay, let's do it.
Kip:
[00:29:28 - 00:29:29]
One, two.
Theresa:
[00:29:30 - 00:29:31]
Buckle my shoes.
Kip:
[00:29:31 - 00:29:32]
What is it?
Amanda:
[00:29:32 - 00:29:34]
All the other candidates.
Theresa:
[00:29:37 - 00:29:39]
Amanda, nip that.
Amanda:
[00:29:39 - 00:29:40]
Okay, sorry.
Kip:
[00:29:41 - 00:29:42]
Let's go back to basics.
Theresa:
[00:29:43 - 00:29:46]
Yeah. They wouldn't, so they wouldn't know the number.
Kip:
[00:29:46 - 00:29:50]
So Randy's back. So funny. Why is Randy back?
Theresa:
[00:29:50 - 00:29:50]
So does he.
Amanda:
[00:29:50 - 00:29:51]
Okay.
Theresa:
[00:29:51 - 00:29:58]
I honestly did not pay enough attention to Randy's face in either situation. I just thought the name was the same.
Kip:
[00:29:58 - 00:29:59]
It's the same guy.
Theresa:
[00:29:59 - 00:30:00]
It is.
Kip:
[00:30:00 - 00:30:02]
He looks a lot better this time around, though.
Theresa:
[00:30:02 - 00:30:03]
Like older?
Kip:
[00:30:03 - 00:30:06]
No, like, he looks more like put together.
Amanda:
[00:30:06 - 00:30:19]
So this is older than when he would have been on his boss. Mine is my theory. He got fired from Mr. Cluck and then became the manager of the boss company.
Theresa:
[00:30:19 - 00:30:21]
And that's why he's such a dick.
Kip:
[00:30:22 - 00:30:31]
Yeah. Because. Yes, we know why. Cluck you on the yard with gnomes. For some reason.
Kip:
[00:30:31 - 00:30:35]
They stole a bunch of gnomes. That's pretty bad. I wasn't happy with that.
Amanda:
[00:30:35 - 00:30:36]
No, me either.
Kip:
[00:30:36 - 00:30:41]
There's a lot of gnomes. There's going to be a lot of disappointed people waking up that next morning. Where's my gnome?
Theresa:
[00:30:41 - 00:30:42]
Oh, that's so sad.
Kip:
[00:30:43 - 00:30:44]
My gnomes are gone.
Amanda:
[00:30:44 - 00:30:50]
Okay. The hurley stuff. This is what I mean. I do love Hurley, but I just don't find his backstory that compelling.
Kip:
[00:30:50 - 00:30:52]
No, it's very light.
Amanda:
[00:30:52 - 00:31:17]
Yeah. And yeah, one thing we talk about a lot with flashbacks is do they drive the on island story and narrative forward? It does, to a degree. You can see why Hurley feels the way he does on the island based on his off island experiences, which is often why we get the backstory and the flashbacks. I'm just going to say I don't really care that much about Hurley's on island story in this regard.
Amanda:
[00:31:17 - 00:31:29]
Like, it just kind of shows that he's someone who feels taken advantage of, who has a lot of self worth issues, who has been hurt by people in the past.
Kip:
[00:31:29 - 00:31:31]
But I don't really care about that.
Amanda:
[00:31:31 - 00:31:37]
I mean, I care about it enough, but I wrote like a half a page of notes for this episode.
Kip:
[00:31:37 - 00:31:55]
That's the thing, is, because they don't give it any emotional gravitas. They treat it like it's funny. And that's like anything with Hurley. It's like this funny, light hearted thing. It's like he's going through some pretty extreme emotional feelings, but they treat it with like, a ha, he's the big guy.
Kip:
[00:31:55 - 00:32:02]
And that pisses me off. And it's like, I hate that. That just because he's the big guy, they treat him like everything about him has to be funny.
Amanda:
[00:32:02 - 00:32:03]
I know.
Kip:
[00:32:03 - 00:32:22]
And it's even like you can kind of understand why he's being so irrational about this food because he's going to blow it up with dynamite or tnt or whatever. And it's like, yeah, because everybody keeps brushing off his concerns. They just keep laughing at him. So obviously he's going to start getting irrational. And I agree with you, Amanda.
Kip:
[00:32:22 - 00:32:30]
It's like you don't have a lot of notes because it's just very surface level. It doesn't go deep like they do with everyone else.
Amanda:
[00:32:30 - 00:32:34]
And that's what. And that's what mean, like, I love Hurley. I just don't like the treatment of Hurley.
Kip:
[00:32:34 - 00:32:35]
Exactly. Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:32:35 - 00:32:47]
So there's nothing in this episode. Yeah. I find it sad that his life is going to change for the negative, and we know that, and that's how he feels. And I'm sorry that he feels the pressure and used and taken for granted and not appreciated on the island. That's not fair either.
Amanda:
[00:32:48 - 00:33:05]
But I just don't think anything was really driven forward there, I have to say. The best part to me is the Tayley stuff. I think finding out that that is what they are, for sure. Watching them kind of. It's heartbreaking to see that there was 23 of them.
Amanda:
[00:33:05 - 00:33:08]
That means 18 of them have died.
Kip:
[00:33:08 - 00:33:11]
And it makes sense, then, why they're throwing these strangers into a pit.
Amanda:
[00:33:11 - 00:33:12]
100%.
Kip:
[00:33:12 - 00:33:13]
Absolutely.
Amanda:
[00:33:13 - 00:33:21]
So, yeah, 18 of them have died in the same amount of time. We figured that maybe the beach people have lost five or six people.
Kip:
[00:33:21 - 00:33:22]
Exactly.
Amanda:
[00:33:22 - 00:33:24]
Including the pilot and the fed marshal.
Kip:
[00:33:24 - 00:33:25]
Yeah.
Amanda:
[00:33:25 - 00:33:34]
So, I mean, clearly they've been through some stuff. Clearly, they're working through some stuff. Anna Lucia is so angry.
Kip:
[00:33:34 - 00:33:50]
Yeah, she's very angry. But I know you guys are getting annoyed with her. You don't like her, and. Yeah, like, her just being, like, I said, no talking. But I also feel like someone like Sawyer gets put in charge, he's going to be not very.
Kip:
[00:33:50 - 00:34:15]
He. He can be very much of an asshole, especially when he has any sort of control or power. And so it's like, because we know him to a degree, and he's like the lovable oath, but at the same time, he is a dick, and he treats people pretty crappy. And I think back to whenever he had any power, even if it was just imagined, it went right to his head. And he treated people pretty shitty, too.
Kip:
[00:34:15 - 00:34:26]
And so it's like, I get that she was really frustrating and annoying in the way that she treated them, but at the same time, not willing just to throw her out completely yet. Just because of that.
Theresa:
[00:34:27 - 00:34:45]
No, I just think it's interesting when you have. Are we naming him? Yeah, I think it's interesting when, you know, at the end of the. Not the last, whatever episode it was that you see Jin running on the beach, the dominant figure there is. He's.
Theresa:
[00:34:45 - 00:35:21]
He's very menacing. He's got this huge club, and then even through this, he's the one who's, like, throwing them in and lifting them out, and he's like, I'm sorry. And so when you see that next to her, who's just kind of consistently like, stop talking, I'm going to hit you, or whatever. It is a little bit jarring because even Libby was willing to talk and obviously so much has happened. And that's why, you know, as angry as she is, and this is why she reacts and stuff like that.
Theresa:
[00:35:21 - 00:35:35]
But it is interesting to see that the most domineering, kind of scary one is so mild mannered relative to the person who they threw in to make them talk or whatever.
Amanda:
[00:35:35 - 00:36:01]
But I do think that is exactly the reason for that, is exactly what they've been through. And I think that's why of all of them. I mean, maybe it was just that Michelle Rodriguez is Michelle Rodriguez. She was pretty popular back then, but I think there's a reason why you see her at the airport with Jack before we see her like this, because that's like night and day, right? She was always a little bit gruff and a little bit, like, sassy, but she's angry now.
Amanda:
[00:36:01 - 00:36:22]
And I think it's to show the difference and to demonstrate that we're going to hopefully find out that they have not hopefully that they've been through shit, but hopefully we'll get to understand why they've been through all this shit. Because just, again, rate on how they're living, how they act, the fact that they've lost 18 of 23, something is very wrong there.
Theresa:
[00:36:24 - 00:36:49]
There's just like a different vibe overall. Even when you look at their bunker versus the other one, I get Desmond was living there and whatever, but even just the atmosphere and the tension feels different. There's an uncertainty in the hatch versus the just despair and dark dank. We're defeated. We're still surviving, but we're defeated.
Amanda:
[00:36:50 - 00:36:52]
They're traumatised, they don't trust.
Theresa:
[00:36:53 - 00:36:54]
They've seen some shit.
Amanda:
[00:36:55 - 00:37:08]
So it's very interesting. It leads to the best thing ever, which is Bernard asking. Well, you don't know if he's Bernard yet. And I think you're not really supposed to fully think that. Think.
Amanda:
[00:37:08 - 00:37:38]
I'm not saying I agree with it. I'm not saying it's appropriate, but I think at the time, especially if you watched it at the time and you were on forums and seeing stuff, whatever, it was supposed to be surprising that Bernard was Rose's husband. So when he asks about Rose and we find out that that's who that is, it's so beautiful and just gives me such goosebumps. And I was, like, crying while we watched this, because they love each other so much. And the first thing he asks about and then we get to see that Rose's faith has been justified.
Amanda:
[00:37:38 - 00:37:43]
And not like a faith, like, I really hope. It's like, no, I know. I can feel he's alive. I know he's alive.
Kip:
[00:37:43 - 00:37:44]
Right?
Theresa:
[00:37:44 - 00:37:54]
And then saving him. That Apollo bar, everybody's like, eating their fellow and she's like, no, he is a sweet tooth. Let me just put this aside. I don't know what it is. It's an Apollo bar, but he's going to love it.
Kip:
[00:37:55 - 00:37:56]
Yeah. That was so nice.
Theresa:
[00:37:56 - 00:38:10]
I love them. That's one relationship I think will stand the test of time. Unlike whatever Jack and whatever. Like Jade, cack Cac, whatever, lack lock sack.
Amanda:
[00:38:10 - 00:38:14]
Leland. What's Lullin lock and Helen?
Theresa:
[00:38:20 - 00:38:25]
No, I think their relationship is so cute. You know what I mean? There's so much concern there.
Kip:
[00:38:25 - 00:38:26]
They're the best.
Theresa:
[00:38:27 - 00:38:29]
You know what I didn't like just as a flashback?
Kip:
[00:38:29 - 00:38:29]
Sorry.
Theresa:
[00:38:29 - 00:38:35]
Quickly back. I did not care for Jack's conversation with Kate while she was in.
Amanda:
[00:38:38 - 00:38:39]
Some privacy.
Theresa:
[00:38:39 - 00:38:43]
Are we having some parallels between Michael and the son?
Kip:
[00:38:43 - 00:38:44]
What is with these men?
Theresa:
[00:38:45 - 00:38:45]
Get out.
Amanda:
[00:38:45 - 00:38:51]
Just give her five. Like, I get she was covered, but it's still an intimate place. She's like, get the hell out.
Kip:
[00:38:51 - 00:38:52]
His look was just like.
Theresa:
[00:38:53 - 00:38:56]
And then she drops her bra and he's like, disgusting.
Kip:
[00:38:56 - 00:38:58]
Get out. Nasty. Why are you talking to her?
Theresa:
[00:38:58 - 00:39:01]
Talk to her after she gets dressed, for God's sake. My God.
Amanda:
[00:39:01 - 00:39:22]
So for a show that's super detail oriented, super meticulous, super well thought out, and where everything seems to mean something, what do we think Hurley's storyline here is supposed to be telling us about our show? Here's.
Kip:
[00:39:25 - 00:39:43]
I don't know if it's supposed to be telling us anything that deep, to be honest. I think it was a mechanism to address the food, the giant food storage. And it was a way that, because immediately people would ask questions like, oh, good. How long is this food going to last? Who's going to get what?
Kip:
[00:39:43 - 00:40:00]
What's going to happen to the food? And it was just like, okay, they counted it all out. It's enough food to feed everybody, like, one meal for three days or whatever it was. So let's just do a buffet and then we don't never have to address it again. Yeah, I think that's honestly all it was.
Kip:
[00:40:00 - 00:40:03]
And they found a way to loop Hurley into it.
Amanda:
[00:40:03 - 00:40:04]
Right.
Kip:
[00:40:04 - 00:40:08]
And again, it's like Hurley gets to deal with the food because he's the big guy.
Amanda:
[00:40:08 - 00:40:09]
Yeah. Which I hate.
Kip:
[00:40:09 - 00:40:09]
Me too.
Theresa:
[00:40:09 - 00:40:20]
Yeah, I didn't care for that. Yeah, I agree. I don't think it was anything more than just, like, pretty surface. I can't even think of any. I'm trying to find meaning behind it.
Theresa:
[00:40:20 - 00:40:37]
Where he won a million dollars and his life changed for the worse and he has a lot of food and pleases everybody for, like, a day. I don't know. Yeah, there's not a lot going on. It's just like a feel good. They're like, feel good bits episode.
Theresa:
[00:40:37 - 00:40:39]
But other than that, it's a good.
Kip:
[00:40:39 - 00:40:50]
Point, too, that it was a feel good for them. Juxtaposote. Juxtaposed with the Taylor's who ain't no good, feel good.
Theresa:
[00:40:50 - 00:40:51]
No, definitely not.
Kip:
[00:40:51 - 00:40:52]
Very depressing.
Theresa:
[00:40:53 - 00:41:07]
Yeah. And I don't know that I believe I would go get dynamite to block. Now you have dynamite in the hat. Very irrational, for sure. You wouldn't touch that.
Theresa:
[00:41:07 - 00:41:18]
You wouldn't bring it in there. Love rose for just being like, maybe we don't, and keeping, like, a calm head about it, but, yeah, I don't know. What do you think?
Amanda:
[00:41:19 - 00:41:38]
I asked because I don't know. I don't think there was anything really. And I agree that I think it's Hurley's supposed to be kind of this lighter touch, and they like to add in some levity here and there and to show again those moments of what do they do when they find food and what Kip was. I just. I think that Hurley is, especially in the early seasons, poorly utilised.
Amanda:
[00:41:38 - 00:41:57]
He's underutilised. Jorge Garcia is a phenomenal actor and the character is very lovable and I think they could do a lot more with him. I think Hurley himself, as a character, starts to advocate for himself amongst them, like, give me more to do, which is essentially, like, everyone give him more to do.
Kip:
[00:41:57 - 00:41:59]
Yeah, totally. Good point.
Theresa:
[00:41:59 - 00:42:01]
Why do you think it's called everybody hates Hugo?
Kip:
[00:42:02 - 00:42:03]
Because he thinks everyone's going to hate him.
Theresa:
[00:42:03 - 00:42:05]
And why Hugo and not Hurley?
Amanda:
[00:42:05 - 00:42:14]
Because I think that's his. Hugo is like his mom and his off island Persona more than his on island Persona.
Kip:
[00:42:14 - 00:42:18]
Like in the first flashback, Hugo, Hugo.
Theresa:
[00:42:18 - 00:42:20]
She was really mean.
Kip:
[00:42:20 - 00:42:21]
Very mean.
Theresa:
[00:42:21 - 00:42:23]
And hitting him, like, please stop.
Kip:
[00:42:23 - 00:42:25]
Yeah, that was uncomfortable.
Theresa:
[00:42:26 - 00:42:31]
I know that he fell or whatever, but he's okay. You don't have to keep going. Please.
Kip:
[00:42:32 - 00:42:42]
All right. So the return of Rose leads me to wonder how the characters are going to rank and if Rose comes back as more than just an honourable mention.
Amanda:
[00:42:42 - 00:42:43]
Let's hear it.
Kip:
[00:42:43 - 00:42:44]
Hear it.
Theresa:
[00:42:45 - 00:43:07]
Okay, so we did add a couple of characters, so we'll just start from the bottom. We're at 17 characters. Starting with Mike, who went up a little bit, and he's at negative 1320. Then we have Shannon with negative 920. Kate with negative 270.
Theresa:
[00:43:07 - 00:43:16]
Hannah Lucia comes in at negative 65. Mr. Echo comes in at ten. Libby. 25.
Theresa:
[00:43:16 - 00:43:25]
Desmond, 60. Walt has 240. Charlie has six. Five. I think that's a five.
Theresa:
[00:43:26 - 00:43:29]
Jack? 630. Claire? 690. Locke?
Theresa:
[00:43:29 - 00:43:34]
775. Jen? 790. Sawyer? 805.
Theresa:
[00:43:34 - 00:43:43]
Then our top three. Sayeed with 1110. Harley with 1330. And then sun at the top still with 1495.
Kip:
[00:43:44 - 00:43:46]
Okay. Did Shannon go up or down?
Theresa:
[00:43:46 - 00:43:51]
She went up. Also, the honourable mention goes to our queen, Rose.
Kip:
[00:43:51 - 00:43:52]
She's an honourable mention.
Theresa:
[00:43:52 - 00:43:53]
She is.
Kip:
[00:43:53 - 00:43:53]
Wow.
Theresa:
[00:43:53 - 00:43:54]
She is.
Kip:
[00:43:54 - 00:43:58]
And then did she get points or an honourable mention?
Theresa:
[00:43:58 - 00:44:08]
Just an honourable mention. It just means that for a character that's not a main character, main cast or anything like that, and we don't see that frequently.
Kip:
[00:44:08 - 00:44:08]
MVP like.
Theresa:
[00:44:09 - 00:44:09]
You rocked it.
Amanda:
[00:44:09 - 00:44:15]
I think, generally speaking, Bernard, you only give character rankings to people who are credited in the main.
Theresa:
[00:44:15 - 00:44:22]
Not necessarily, because I don't know that all of them are credited.
Kip:
[00:44:22 - 00:44:22]
They would be.
Theresa:
[00:44:22 - 00:44:25]
They are libyan. Oh, okay, then.
Amanda:
[00:44:25 - 00:44:26]
Yes.
Kip:
[00:44:27 - 00:44:29]
Did Charlie go up or down?
Theresa:
[00:44:29 - 00:44:30]
Down.
Kip:
[00:44:30 - 00:44:30]
Good.
Theresa:
[00:44:31 - 00:44:47]
His points went down. I really don't like the way he claims to care about people. And we see it in his flashback, too, where he cares about his brother and then he spirals and he cares about this woman and he wants to make it better. But this is not how you treat people you care about.
Kip:
[00:44:49 - 00:44:53]
How many points did sun go up?
Theresa:
[00:44:54 - 00:44:54]
100.
Kip:
[00:44:54 - 00:44:55]
Okay.
Theresa:
[00:44:55 - 00:45:10]
That the act of having to bury your own grief so that you can save other people's hope is so like that one act is so powerful and so beautiful and so sad.
Kip:
[00:45:12 - 00:45:22]
All right, thank you very much, Teresa. If you want to follow along on the rankings, cheque out the Facebook and Instagram page, because we post weekly how they do. And it is very entertaining.
Amanda:
[00:45:22 - 00:45:23]
It is very.
Kip:
[00:45:23 - 00:45:25]
I must say, I really enjoy it.
Theresa:
[00:45:25 - 00:45:26]
I'm glad you think so.
Kip:
[00:45:29 - 00:45:42]
Alrighty, this brings us to the end. The end. This is the end of this episode. How do we feel about it? What kind of ratings are we going to give?
Kip:
[00:45:42 - 00:45:44]
Everybody hates Hugo. Teresa.
Theresa:
[00:45:44 - 00:46:04]
Oh, we're starting with me. Yeah, I'm going to give it an eight. Honestly, it's not my favourite. I don't think the whole Hurley storyline does enough for me, honestly. The eight is really carried by Rose, Bernard and son.
Theresa:
[00:46:06 - 00:46:15]
Yeah. I didn't love the flashback. And the problem is not like that. That's kind of like the vibe that I get.
Kip:
[00:46:15 - 00:46:18]
It's just kind of like, okay, this sounds you're making.
Theresa:
[00:46:18 - 00:46:22]
Oh, not again. When I was like. And then, yeah, but, yeah, that's.
Kip:
[00:46:22 - 00:46:23]
I mean, we get it.
Theresa:
[00:46:23 - 00:46:26]
Yeah, she's like, it's alright.
Kip:
[00:46:26 - 00:46:28]
So you give it an eight. Okay. Amanda, how about you?
Amanda:
[00:46:28 - 00:46:31]
I think I'd also give it an eight for reasons as well.
Theresa:
[00:46:31 - 00:46:37]
First of all, why did that sound like a bed creaking? That was the last one, remember?
Amanda:
[00:46:38 - 00:47:08]
No, seriously, though, I think about an eight and for very similar reasons. I mean, I've said kind of throughout the whole episode my issues with the hurley aspect of it, but I agree that it's a strong, driven episode in terms of Bernard and Rose. And that's beautiful. Sun is beautiful. And I think the storyline of the mean, it's so interesting because Rose has been saying since literally the first episode, remember when she said, that's probably what they're saying about us and that is probably what they were.
Amanda:
[00:47:08 - 00:47:18]
Right. She was so spot on. I love that. I love that. Of the fact that 18 of them are dead, Bernard is not one of them, and that, you know, that they're headed towards that.
Amanda:
[00:47:19 - 00:47:40]
And I just think it's going to be a really strong storyline and I think it's introducing some really interesting characters and I'm just really excited to see where it goes. But I think that they need to start utilising Hurley and Jorge Garcia in a much better way because he is not just comic relief, he is a three dimensional character and he should be utilised as such.
Kip:
[00:47:40 - 00:48:11]
Yeah, I'm going to give it a 7.8 because I feel like they really do a disservice to the character of Hurley and it shows some of the, I think the cracks in the storytelling that we have. It's a very strong storytelling show and typically it's very, very strong and well done. But I think you see kind of the failings in characters like Hugo Reyes, where it could be a much better portrayal and through no fault of the actor.
Amanda:
[00:48:11 - 00:48:11]
No.
Kip:
[00:48:11 - 00:48:13]
But through the writing, he's great.
Theresa:
[00:48:13 - 00:48:18]
Yeah, there's a lot to do there, too, and I just don't think we're really addressing.
Kip:
[00:48:18 - 00:48:24]
Yeah, the Taylor is like, I love that, but I also think just makes me more anxious to see their story.
Theresa:
[00:48:24 - 00:48:50]
