Hurley floors it through traffic, cops swarm behind him, and Jack watches from the shadows and that’s how Lost decides to kick off Season 4. We’re back on our rewatch podcast with “The Beginning of the End,” and the show wastes no time dropping a phrase that rewires the whole series: Oceanic Six. If you love the feeling of a mystery tightening instead of stretching, this premiere is a masterclass in giving answers that instantly create bigger questions.

We talk through the flash forward structure and why shifting the focus to Hurley changes the emotional tone, especially as the episode blends grief, paranoia, and that uniquely unsettling Lost brand of reality-bending. Charlie’s final warning still hangs in the air, the freighter team feels both promising and suspicious, and the cabin sequence pushes the “what is real?” question right up to the edge. We also dig into the real-world production context, including the writers strike era and the shorter season pace that makes every scene feel like it matters.

Back on the island, the big story is leadership under pressure. Jack wants rescue, Locke wants control, and neither one makes it easy for anyone stuck in the middle. We break down the argument that splits the survivors into two camps, the “Are you insane?” moment that perfectly captures the rage and disbelief, and the quiet character beats that land hardest, especially Sawyer showing real growth and Hurley having to carry the worst news to Claire.

If you’re rewatching Lost Season 4, looking for Oceanic Six clues, or just want a smart, funny recap from three best friends who can’t stop arguing about who made the right call, hit play. Cold Open And Best Friends

Amanda

We're three best friends and we love lost and we love talking.

Kip

But even more so, we love talking about lost.

Theresa

So join us for some laughs, good conversation, and let's get lost together.

Kip

Okay, so I've hit record for the record.

Amanda

For the record? It's funny because red means record. Yeah. And green means not, but usually green means go. And red means I can see why you've had issues in the past. Like that's just confusing.

Kip

Society has conditioned us to be a good thing. I think this is not good.

Amanda

And green would be good.

Theresa

I just realized I'm like, what? What? Okay, yeah, no, that makes sense.

Kip

Well, hello everyone. We are here today. We are gathered today, three best friends to talk.

Amanda

I'm so excited. I don't even know what to say. It's been a minute. It's been so long.

Kip

It's been a while since we've, and in fact, I will touch on that on my trivia how long it's been.

Amanda

Oh no.

Kip

For those of you who follow us regularly, we love and thank you. I know it's been a bit of a break, but we're here. We're queer.

Amanda

Get used to it. And we don't want any more bears. Oh we won't find somewhere different with that. That's Simpsons, right?

Kip

That's Simpsons, yeah. Uh maybe you should just sit in there. So anyway, we're here to talk about lost, of course, but also just like it's great to be back. You know, it's been a while.

Theresa

It has been a while. I feel like getting back into it, I was like nervous that like I wouldn't know how to like talk into a microphone anymore. And like I wouldn't know how to like talk to you guys, even though like we're friends.

Kip

We we do talk every day, even though about other things not lost related.

Theresa

Yeah. So I was like, oh my god, what am I gonna say?

Amanda

But like it's lately it's been a big it's been a lot of hockey chatter.

Kip

Yeah, so we're we're right in the throws, and in fact, this won't be much different from when we were finishing our recording last

Hiatus Catch-Up And Hockey Detour

Kip

season because the Jets were head like heavy into the playoffs, and there was some exciting times in our final episodes of jet playoff action. However, this year not so much, yeah.

Amanda

Um, it's very funny because we were very into the playoffs last year and we did very well. Yeah, we did very well, and then this year, um, not so much. And uh I got like an email from the season because I have like part season tickets, not the whole season. And uh the like season ticket rep emailed me, and I'm sure it's just like a generic thing that goes out, but it was very funny because it was like, do whatever this last step I need to do to like secure my play my tickets for next year, and they're like, and be sure to do it, or you're gonna miss out on your opportunity for playoff tickets. And I'm like, I don't think that is what's gonna stop me from getting to see the Jets in the playoffs this year.

Theresa

No, sorry to say it's a rebuilding year, yeah. That's what they say.

Kip

It's the beginning of a rebuilding year, yeah.

Amanda

So one you can't discount a team for one bad season after. No, exactly. It's fine.

Kip

Okay, so next podcast is clearly us talking about the Jets.

Amanda

Yeah. Our stay tuned for that. City Crosby. It was also just the Olympics. If you're really trying to put this in a time frame of when we're recording, we're just coming off the high of the Winter Olympics. We're Canadians, we gotta love the Winter Olympics. We're still in NHL season. Love NHL.

Kip

It was a sad timeslash exciting time. It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.

Theresa

Yes, it was complicated.

Amanda

Um, yeah, so that's what we've been thinking about. We haven't been thinking about lost. We haven't been until most recently.

Kip

And like Teresa, I agree. It was a little nerve-wracking kind of getting back into it because it's been a while. And I was like, I texted the group this morning, like, what do I even do? What do I have to think about as I'm watching Lost? Because I don't remember.

Theresa

I know.

Amanda

Yeah, I know. But definitely wasn't hard getting back into watching it. It was no good, it's a we it was a great kind of place to take a more extended break, which we'll talk. I'm gonna talk about later. But it I think it was a good place. If you're gonna take a longer break, I think between three and four is like a good at a time. I think so. Like it well, I'll talk about it a little bit.

Kip

Did you okay we we'll talk about it later, but did you notice anything about Matthew Fox from I mean, I didn't watch the finale since we've watched it, like season three. But there was a distinct difference in how he looked from the season finale to how he looked this season.

Amanda

This is facial hair?

Kip

No, hair? He apparently lost a lot of weight. He I actually thought that when he for a specific reason though.

Amanda

Oh when he was in the um gym, the scene with her. That's when I thought it was him with a suit. I was like, he looks thinner. Yeah. Was he sick?

Kip

No, he was filming Speed Racer. Oh, and apparently he needed to lose weight for Speed Racer for some reason. That's weird.

Amanda

I guess he had to look more like an athlete.

Kip

A race car driver.

Amanda

Isn't that where Speed Racer takes place? I never actually watched it.

Theresa

I don't know what it's about.

Amanda

Racing of some part. I did know that that was like his big like lost era like movie attempt. Yeah. And there's one other one he was a weird boxing one or something.

Kip

Or was that the more recent one?

Theresa

Isn't he making a resurgence right now? No, I don't know. He tried. I thought he was I think someone posted in one of the groups that he's like a part of some show or they he was on a red carpet or something.

Amanda

He did do a show uh like about a year or two ago, I think, and it was okay-ish, but then it seemed he kind of dropped off again. I don't I don't think he loves the limelight.

Kip

No, I feel like he's just like gets these feelings like maybe I should try again, and then he does, and then he's like, nah, I'm just not into it anymore.

Amanda

I I'm I'm sure there's some financial peace to a lot of that. Like, I know that they have to work a certain amount of hours to like keep their side cards and stuff. Like, but I have always got the feeling from him that he did not love like the extra stuff that went along with, and he went from like Party of Five where he's kind of like a teen heartthrob to like this show where he's like this like kind of like dashing leading man, like two crazy huge popular shows, like two of the biggest shows of the 90s and 2000s. Yeah, and he probably brought a lot of the fandom from Party of Five to Lost that kind of grew up with him. So it's like I'm sure he's had a lot of encounters that he hasn't enjoyed, and he's gotten some bad publicity.

Kip

And I would love to encounter him.

Amanda

I would love to encounter him as well. That's what I said, just right now.

Kip

Yeah, even now.

Amanda

Oh, yeah.

Kip

Oh, I just would I would like to talk to him.

Amanda

Well, and even like he is just like when we were watching it, I was like, you know what? He's such a dick in this episode, which we'll get to again later. But like when he walked into the gym at the end with Hurley, I was like, But that man is a very beautiful man, he's very attractive, like fine. I just actually the whole episode, I was just like, maybe it's been we haven't watched in a while. I'm like, why is everyone so attractive on this show?

Theresa

I thought Sawyer was looking at it.

Amanda

Jim looked good, Charlie, even when he comes to visit Hurley, as Harley looks good, good play. Kate looks good, Juliet. Like everyone's Claire looked beautiful, and like everyone's a very attractive cast. John Locke, even I was a little bit like what you know what though that makes sense.

Theresa

I feel like, wasn't there like a moment in it a couple seasons ago where you were talking about being attracted to him?

Amanda

I wasn't attracted to him, but I'm just saying I can understand like when he's in his like I don't get it. Yeah, okay, whatever.

Theresa

I don't think too long.

Kip

There was an attraction, which is nothing against Dario Quinn.

Theresa

Honestly, to each their own, he's just not my cup of tea. I know.

Kip

No, I'm more of a Matthew Fox.

Amanda

We did forget already to enjoy who we are. Um, right.

Kip

See, it's been a while.

Amanda

We hope you all kind of know us already. But if you don't, if you just join us, I'm Amanda.

Kip

There's a good chance that you're just you've literally just listened to the last episode. So yeah.

Amanda

But I'm Amanda. I've said that three times now. None of you have said who you are. I think you've only said it once. I said it three times.

Theresa

Twice. Yeah, I think that was the second time. I'm Kip.

Amanda

And I'm joined here with Teresa to my left and Kip to my right, as we would normally usually do.

Theresa

Yeah, that's what we usually do.

Kip

Yeah, we're off on the we're off on the um mechanics, the cycle of things.

Theresa

Yeah, and like the the flow. But I think I think our banter is still on.

Amanda

I also think that Teresa and I mainlining hot chocolate on the drive out here is probably not our best. I had an extra large. I'm jealous.

Theresa

From co-op, yeah, the co-op, so the good stuff. I bought one from Sev. I spit it out. Oh it was like water. Oh then we went to co-op.

Kip

I'm gonna go make a hot chocolate. A B R B. Just kidding.

Theresa

I mean, I would be like, yeah, do it.

Kip

Do you want a hot chocolate?

Theresa

No, I'm okay. I I literally had like a really big one. But if you want one, we take breaks whenever, you know.

Amanda

Yeah.

Kip

That's right.

Amanda

Um, but we're not gonna take a break.

Kip

What's the next thing we gotta do here?

Amanda

Teresa is gonna tell us about what episode we're going to be listening to, right? Or did we do trivia first?

Kip

No, I think we do the synopsis first, right? Because that way it sets the sets the tone.

Amanda

Yeah. Yeah. And then we'll talk about some other stuff.

Theresa

Wow, okay, yeah, we are a little rusty.

Amanda

So, Teresa, what is this episode about?

Theresa

Um, so we are watching season four, episode one, and it's called The Beginning of the End. It's written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Kri Carlton Kews and directed

Season 4 Premiere Setup

Theresa

by Kipper's favorite Jack Bender. The survivors argue about whether the freighter folk are who they claim to be and split into two camps, Locke's group, who feel they are coming to kill them all, and Jack's group, who feel rescue is close at hand. In a flash forward, Hurley receives a visit from an old friend and goes back into the mental institution.

Kip

I don't think we call them that anymore.

Amanda

No. What do we call them? Just like a mental hospital? Psychological What's Selkirk mental hospital called? That or what is it called?

Kip

Google it.

Theresa

I don't like the synopsis either.

Amanda

Facility, mental facility?

Theresa

Facility, I think.

Amanda

Might be better. Institution doesn't seem no, that's true. Um no, I don't love the synopsis on this, but what I can tell you is I freaking love this episode. Spoiler alert to when we rank them later.

Kip

Mental Health Center.

Amanda

Mental health center. Oh, okay. I like that a lot better, actually.

Kip

Yeah.

Amanda

That's very nice. Um but yeah, this is a terrible synopsis. It's not a good synopsis. They're never good. No, but Carlton Hughes, Damon Lindelof, and Jack Bender as a Dream Team. Dream team is why this episode is so freaking good. Yeah, it's a good episode. But yeah, that terrible sentence.

Kip

Okay, so let me tell you a little bit about it. Okay. Okay, so IMDB, 8.7 out of 10. Okay. So a little bit less than where we were at the premiere of, or sorry, the finale of last season. And we had a viewership, 17.7 million. The highest that season four ever got. And it just went downhill from here.

Amanda

Okay.

Kip

But also higher than the finale of last season.

Amanda

Well, this is they wanted to see it. Like they wanted to. This is higher than the season. Yeah, that's what I mean. Like that set it up for. Yeah. Um, do you does the synopsis say the original air date? Does it was this a September one still? No, because of the writer's strike, right?

Kip

They moved it to January and moved it to a Thursday when it's loss has always been on Wednesdays. It was the first time it was ever on a Thursday, not a Wednesday.

Amanda

Okay.

Kip

Because of the writer's strike. And in fact, Damon and Carlton wanted to not they had eight episodes

Writers Strike And Shorter Seasons

Kip

filmed before the writer's strike. And they wanted to leave it until the following September, do a regular premiere until everything was done. Or until they could continue. The writer's strike was over, but ABC forced them to air it in January, even before the writer's strike was like resolved.

Amanda

So then they just like did a six extra episodes at the end just to kind of give us a more full season. Was that crazy? That's interesting. It did feel like there was a big gap, but that is how they always kind of feel, right?

Kip

And this is the first season where we have less than like the regular traditional season 22, 23 episode count.

Amanda

And we never do again get that. So this is 14, and then season five and six each have 16 or 17, depending on how you break up the break them up. Because I think technically when it aired season six was 16 episodes, because they aired the finale in one big chunk.

Kip

Yeah.

Amanda

But they now split it into two.

Kip

It's actually two episodes.

Amanda

Oh, okay. At first I was like, well. So I remember I remember very like very much remembering it being 16 episodes.

Kip

And then when you look at the but that's crazy because like in even just just for us, we'd recorded 22, 23 episodes. So even starting now, there's gonna be less recording sessions, guys.

Theresa

I'm less of our friendly banter. Until we start story in advance.

Amanda

Yeah. We have so many ideas on the horizon. Jets, Seinfeld, who knows? Um books and beers. Books and bears and beers.

Theresa

Books and beers.

Kip

All right. Are you ready for some triv? No.

Theresa

Oh my god, I'm so excited. Oh, wait, what's the sound for this season?

Kip

Trivia. I don't know. You gotta make one up.

Theresa

Oh my god. Okay.

Kip

Are you ready?

Theresa

No. I'm never ready.

Kip

Yeah, but do you know what you're gonna do?

Theresa

No. But it's okay.

Amanda

That was a whirlwind.

Kip

Okay, first question. When Hurley hallucinates Charlie's swimming outside the interrogation room, what does

Trivia Returns With New Facts

Kip

Charlie have written on his hand?

Amanda

I think I was just freaked out and I didn't look. I didn't look either.

Theresa

I was like, uh-uh, no, thank you.

Kip

So you don't have a sound?

Theresa

No. I I mean I I potentially have a sound, but I do not have an answer.

Kip

Okay, it was written. Something he said to Hurley later in Hurley's vision, they need you.

Theresa

Well, that's horrifying. That's so sad.

Kip

Okay, question number two. Lance Reddick, who plays Matthew Abaddon, was originally supposed to play what character from season two?

Amanda

We are so bad at this. Um I don't have an answer. That's your sound. Um That's hold on.

Kip

Yeah, no, that's your sound.

Theresa

You wanted to do that sound of all the potash.

Amanda

It's like radio, you can't have too much silence. So I'm just trying to think.

Theresa

You can't cut. Like, I thought it was you're like, I have to do my sound. I thought it was gonna be something like I'm like, here we go. It's gonna be epic.

Amanda

Season three specific or four specific and it's just the Remember when I said I was gonna do a new quote every episode, one season, and I did it for like three episodes.

Theresa

You also said you're gonna read all of Sawyer's books.

Amanda

I'm working on those.

Theresa

How many have you read?

Amanda

None I promise you they will be done by the time this series is done.

Kip

Hell no, it's not gonna be.

Amanda

Watership down is really hard to get through. Um, it's about bunnies. Um who would have been in season? I think that's what's hard. Can you give me a hint? Can you give us a little bit? No, okay. Good. Thanks for helping, Kip. Uh, who's in season two? Is it is it Richard?

Kip

They were in season two.

Amanda

Yeah, but that was so long ago. Is it Richard?

Kip

No. Okay, here's another hint.

Amanda

Okay.

Kip

No, it'll be too easy.

Amanda

Well, we're not getting it.

Kip

Um, Teresa.

Theresa

Yeah.

Amanda

Oh, dun dun dun dun dun. Is it Echo?

Kip

Yes. Oh. Because he's your favorite character from season two.

Amanda

Oh, yeah, he is. I love how you didn't even have to give a hint more than just saying Teresa's name.

Theresa

Oh, I love him.

Kip

Oh, that would have been an interesting thing. But he was too busy doing the wire. I think it's a good one.

Amanda

Oh, that's too bad.

Kip

Oh, he's so good in the wire.

Amanda

I loved Yeah, me too. I love that guy too.

Theresa

Addwale. Adwale. Oh man, you guys. No, this is not good. Hold on. Does they have a cast on here? No, they don't.

Kip

Addal Wale is correct, but that's only one part.

Amanda

It's his first name, I believe. Adolet. This is ridiculous.

Kip

Okay.

Amanda

Anyway, let's just move on because it's embarrassing.

Kip

Okay. Question number three. Okay. Who was Hurley originally supposed to see in the cabin instead of Christian Shepherd?

Amanda

Is that who he saw? I just saw an eyeball.

Kip

No, Christian Shepard was sitting there.

Amanda

I saw a person.

Theresa

Yeah. Um I got scared, honestly.

Amanda

Are you insane? Oh, was it?

Kip

Because he gives a little bit more conviction. Yeah. Try again.

Amanda

Are you insane?

Kip

Okay, pretty good.

Amanda

Um, was it supposed to be Jacob?

Kip

No.

Amanda

Oh. Oh, yeah, go ahead. I have another guess if you don't know. I don't have a guess. Okay. Is it is it um Charlotte? Not her Charlotte. What's her name? Libby. Libby, that's what I meant. Charlotte. No. Why did I say Charlotte? Because you saw Daniel. Oh, I did see Daniel. Love Daniel. Love Daniel. But I'm so much to talk about. Okay, so we suck today at Trivia.

Kip

He was supposed to see himself.

Amanda

Oh.

Kip

However, like that. Now the network made them, and they filmed it, but the network made them change it, stating it would set a precedent of weirdness. They weren't prepared to go down.

Theresa

That I'm sorry. That's where they're drawing the line. Not the smoke monster, not any of that. It's pretty weird that it's Christian.

Kip

But Hurley Singh himself was too far.

Theresa

That's that's that's wild.

Amanda

That it's not. Okay, well, good for them for okay.

Kip

I have one non, it's more like a trivia statement.

Amanda

Okay. Okay.

Kip

So this is the first season premiere not to be Jack-centric.

Amanda

Oh, I did wonder. I actually thought about that because I was like, there you the finales and and the premieres usually either are like everyone, yeah. Kind of like a shared consciousness, or Jack. And I was like, I wonder why they decide to go with Hurley.

Kip

I have one final question.

Amanda

Oh no.

Kip

How many days is it since we recorded an episode?

Amanda

I think cheating. What are you? Rock and roll or whatever that is. Um okay.

Kip

That's a deep touch.

Amanda

I'm gonna say 250.

Kip

Incorrect.

Theresa

You didn't you didn't make a sound.

Amanda

This is not show related, so it doesn't need to sound. Oh, okay.

Theresa

Um okay, hold on.

Amanda

I actually don't remember exactly when we is it the closest without going over.

Kip

No, it's not. There's no rules.

Amanda

You just have to be the closest. And I'm wrong at 250, so you don't get to know if I was high or low.

Kip

Okay.

Theresa

150.

Kip

You'll never believe it. 108.

Theresa

No!

Kip

Just kidding. Oh, Christopher 307.

Theresa

No, really.

Kip

It's been a while. So it's been a while.

Theresa

Hold on. Hold wait, what?

Kip

May May 4th. May 4th. 2025 is the last time we sat here recording. We weren't even sitting here, we were sitting in a totally different building.

Amanda

Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, we greeted our studio, everyone, just in case you're wondering.

Kip

And no, May 4th.

Amanda

May 4th.

Kip

Yeah.

Amanda

That that is crazy. We we all we've never we usually start in like December. We're not starting until March, which is crazy. But there was lots going on.

Theresa

So wow, uh mind blown. I was like, we stopped in September.

Kip

So there you go. Trivia. We're off to a great start, everybody.

Amanda

We sucked at it. And now you know why, though. But thank you for sharing that fact with everyone so they know that the reason we suck so much is it's been 307 days since we last did it.

Theresa

Big old goose egg. Big old goose egg.

Amanda

But you know what I'm excited for more than anything. You should have it.

Kip

It's been 307 days since we've had Teresa's stream of consciousness.

Theresa

Oh no.

Kip

Also.

Theresa

Oh, also. Oh, I haven't seen also in so long.

Kip

Oh no. Oh no.

Theresa

Oh no. All right. Season four, episode one, the beginning of the end. Oh, it's been a while. The big girl is rusty, but here we go. Oh man. Last season was unhinged. Oh, that's a lot of papayas. Oh shit, what the hell? Wait, who chasing? Can you see with all that papaya juice on your windshield? Ooh, someone's having a little drunky drink. Oh, it's Jackalope.

Stream Of Consciousness Watchthrough

Theresa

Wait, why are we downing it, Jack? Damn. Yep, that's what I thought. Lot of pulp on that windshield. Oh dear. Are they okay? Hope they have their seatbelt on. My god, so chaos. Wait, Hurley? Why he driving so crazy? You okay? Is everyone okay? Oh, he doesn't have a scratch on him though. Oceanic six. Okay. What happened to him? He's a celebrity? Ooh, who did who did you know? Okay, this must be Post Island. Hurley, are you gonna tell him you knew her? Oh my god, liar. Because he knew her, right? Oh yeah, yeah, he must have, because he was with um Libby. Ew, why is Michael credited? Kebabasa. Um, also were we chasing him because he knocked over the stands or cause he was speeding? Oh, he wants to go into a mental health center. Okay, back on the island. Okay. Woohoo, off the island we go. Wait, no sign of who? Oh lock, okay. Jack, don't be ridiculous. You're not gonna kill a man. It goes against your oath. And you're not really the murdering type. I'll probably wait until I see the boat to say that I'm that we're for sure going home. Wait, so Charlie and Clara are official? And Rose wants her to bone him. Okay. Um, Ben, the ball's on you to ask f Danielle for a favor. Okay, I don't know if I trust Ben. Yos, bitch. Hit him again. Uh Juliette, what are you doing? Just digging a hole while so you're just standing there. Aw, sir, Hurley's such a sweetheart. Wait, a cannonball from where? Again, where are we cannonballing? Is there a cliff nearby? Where are you running to? Oh, it's like a sandbar. Okay, is that deep enough to die to cannonball into? Oh, he's so happy. Oh wait. Oh no. He was so happy, but no no. So many issues. So many sad, effed up news. Oh, what's happening? Where's Naomi? I thought she was dead. Dead Lady Walk? Where? How? This is complex for sure. I am confused. Oh Hurley. I'm so confused about everything. How would you create a dummy trail? Wait, we're going after no Naomi. Wait, he's gonna go after Naomi? Um do what exactly? I wonder if everyone smells bad on the island. Like, are we just used to the smell of Bio at this point? Oh, Jin looking fine. Oh, it's a Hurley flashback now. Who's this guy? Okay, hello, Mr. Abadon. Why would an attorney for the airline be there? Oh, okay, flash forward, then? Upgrade what? Oh move him somewhere else. Is Oceanic responsible for him in some way? This guy's super sus. Wait, is who still alive? What's happening? Wait, where did everyone get their torches? Did we have them when we left? How did we light them? Awesome, you're so sweet. He cares so much. He's trying. I know he lost them. Wait, what's that? Is that that weird cabin? Ew, it's lit. Oh, what's happening? Ooh, so Kate was right. Oh, and Kate took the phone. Wait, Jack didn't feel a big weight come out of his pants. What is Kate up to then? What's everybody's plan? Where's Kate going? Who's any of the folks down to the beach? Where'd she get the the torch? Uh oh, your phone is ringing. They gonna find you, and by then I want to say Naomi? Ew, there's blood on her. Ew, seriously, how is Naomi walking around moving around and shit? Oh she's dying for sure. Where's the knife? Did she pull it out of her back? Oh, I guess that's what she used on Kate. Man, she's gonna straight up die. What was Naomi's plan though? Like escape to die in a tree? Oh, absolutely fucking not. Whose eye was that? No thanks. Wait, what the fuck? Oh no, I would die. I'm gonna poop my pants. I'm scared. Oh my god, what is happening? I'm gonna cry. Where's the light coming from? Oh it's John. What the fuck? Oh he's creepy. So wait, how did Locke know about the not Penny's boat? Okay, who are these people who are coming? Wait, why are we anti-Locke again? Oh right, the sub. Well we're look, we're reunited. Oh love. Oh no, Claire. Oh god. Everyone's getting getting their sweet reunions, but Claire, oh my god. And Rose said to bone him. Like even Juliette gets a reunion. Oh no. Oh god. Oh dear. You know what? Hugh is actually a decent artist. Um wait, what? I thought wait, what? What's happening? Is this a I see dead people thing? Uh that's what we saw. But wait, how did the other guy see him? Okay, so Charlie is dead. Wait, what? So dead people are ghosts, no? Can they hit you? Where did Charlie get his new duds and he's dry? I thought when you died the way that you are is the way that you're gonna be is a ghost. Well, whatever. Charlie, what are you talking about? Okay. Apparently that works. If you see ghosts, you close your eyes and count to five. Oh, everyone's here. Except for Kate? I mean I can't say that Locke didn't deserve that hit considering no one knows what the heck is going on. Oh my god, Jack was gonna shoot him. What the hell? Uh did Jack know it wasn't loaded? See, that's not okay. Alright, someone stopped the fighting. I like that Jack is still wearing his backpack. Um, yes, Locke, please explain it all. Bent, shut the fuck up. Wait, how did catch up Kate catch up so fast? Okay, John, can you please, please tell everyone why you feel this way? Like, what do you know that no one else does? I mean I kinda get where Hurley is coming from and it's kinda giving me chills. Um, I guess maybe I'd probably do the same. Like I'd want to get the island, but something isn't right with this whole situation. Oh, Benya chatty boy. You should really stop talking. Okay, well I also see where Rose is coming from, 'cause you know, we watch Locke stab someone. Kate, what are you doing? Okay, well. Goodbye, friends again. Ooh, Hurley's a baller. And who is this now? Oh it's Jack. It's Jackalope. So who would win here, Jack or Hugo? 'Cause I'm rooting for Hugo. Seriously, Hugo is destroying him and Jack is a hoe. Um tell what? What are we not telling? What happened? Why would you come here, ask to play horse, and then get all weird? What are we sorry for? Well, they parted, but we're saved together. However, that happened. Why? What did you do? Who is it? The island? Why is Jack so mad? You know when he says never say never? It reminds me of Justin Bieber. Ooh, the fuselage. Seems like a lifetime ago. Honestly, I think y'all are just cursed. You guys just have very bad luck. Oh oh a chopper! Wait, how did they find them right there? Thought we're going to the beach. Wait, more people are parachuting down? Where did everybody's torches go? And Kate's flashlight. Wait, how do you know where you're running to? Who is that? Uh yes, sir, that is indeed the Jagalope. Uh, the end.

Amanda

Yeah, I mean, that that really says it all, doesn't it? That sounds like I was confused a lot. It's a confusing episode, especially if you haven't watched in a long time. Or ever. I already forgot. Where did Desmond and Said end up?

Theresa

What do you mean?

Amanda

Did they go with Locke or do they stay with Jack?

Theresa

I think they stayed with Jack. I can't remember either. Because I feel like the only people that they showed moving around were like Claire Hurley, Sawyer.

Amanda

But Desmond

Immediate Reactions And Loose Ends

Amanda

and Said also they know that they don't trust Locke, but they know that Jack's wrong.

Theresa

Yeah. Yeah, but I also feel like Said would be like, I can do it.

Amanda

Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of humor. Yeah, you know, whatever it is. But yeah.

Kip

And Desmond, I think, is just like he's got that weird connection with Jack.

Theresa

Yeah.

Kip

He'll just kind of go along. I don't think he likes Locke very much either.

Amanda

I mean, Locke's really not ingratiating himself to anyone. Um which I totally get.

Theresa

I know. How do you trust someone who literally just st like literally stabbed someone in the back?

Kip

And then dipped.

Theresa

Good luck, everyone. But trust me.

Kip

But also like doesn't ever explain himself. Ever.

Amanda

No. He he got to the point where today where he said, or in that episode, that he needs to explain himself. Doesn't, but acknowledges the need. Yeah.

Kip

Right.

Amanda

The lack of explanation that's gone on to this point, I suppose.

Theresa

I think that's why I'm always confused by like I get like he knows he needs to explain. And then like things are just so dire that like he's just like, well, I can't do it right now. So come on. Just come with me. Like it's raining, you guys. You guys could take two seconds to like.

Amanda

But that's kind of a Jack and a Locke problem in different ways. Is like both of them like are so like they believe in themselves and what they're doing so much that they often do just expect like Jack just kind of expects everyone to like kind of follow him. And Locke doesn't think he like needs to lower himself to like provide an explanation. Yeah. Right. Because like they both could probably have had some conversations that um were different. But we can we can go back to the beginning. I just I if when you're going through your stream of consciousness to talk about like Claire and and Hurley and Sawyer and stuff, I was like, where did Desmond and Said end up? Because they would have been more aware that something was amiss. But again, it's like that similar thing to like what Rose said, which is like Rose doesn't want to leave the island, but she doesn't want to go with Locke. Yeah, exactly. I used to almost be like a third option.

Kip

Um I liked how you pointed out the pulp on his windshield.

Theresa

Yeah, that was a lot.

Kip

Because I noticed the drink Jack made himself was orange juice with a big no pulp sticker on it. And then there was a bunch of pulp on the windshield.

Amanda

He's probably disgusted by that part of the chase.

Kip

He's like gross. Gross.

Amanda

But like no pulp is the right way to go.

Kip

Oh

The Great Pulp Debate

Kip

what?

Amanda

You like pulp?

Kip

I love pulp. Give me all super.

Amanda

Ew, it's like eating.

Kip

You guys don't like pulp? Hold on. No pulp.

Theresa

Hold on. Hold on.

Amanda

Which isn't gonna eat any of it anyway, but okay.

Theresa

Are we just okay? Here's the like question. Because are we talking like no bits in beverages ever? No. Or are we talking about pulp specifically?

Amanda

Well, I am talking about no bits in drinks ever, but we were talking about specifically pulp. I that's I'll die on that hill too. I don't like boba. I don't like the only thing I like is that Starbucks drink they have in the summer sometimes that has those little strawberry things that burst in your mouth. What are those? Those are cool.

Kip

I don't like the bubble tea stuff either. Is that boba?

Theresa

Okay, well that okay.

Amanda

But again, I like pulp. What do you feel about pulp, Teresa?

Theresa

Well, I mean, I like coconut water with bits in it. Is that the same?

Amanda

Kind of. Well, so you would like pulp. You would like pulp then.

Theresa

No, actually, when I drank orange juice, I did not like pulp.

Amanda

Okay.

Theresa

So no pulp. I mean, honestly, the answer is it depends. Give me boba, give me um coconut water with pulp, coconut juice with pulp, I'm totally down. Give me aloe juice with aloe bits in it. Oh my god. But put pulp in orange juice, and I'm I absolutely not. But you don't like orange juice, though.

Amanda

That's like the least offensive version of what you're talking about.

Theresa

I don't think so.

Amanda

Like if you lined up all four of those beverages and I had to pick one, I would pick pulp and orange juice.

Theresa

I even when I drank orange juice, I did not like pulp. I'm not a pulpy gal except for certain other things.

Kip

But you just mentioned like drinks that you like pulp in. So I think you are a pulpy gal.

Theresa

But uh there's something about orange juice pulp that is like I don't like the the texture. It's like little like fuzzy bits. I just don't think any drink should be chewed. Well, you're not chewing the drink, you're chewing the the bits.

Amanda

There should be no teeth involvement in my drinking.

Theresa

I don't chew my pulp, I just drink it. You didn't like filter it through your teeth sometimes? What you know you'll know. I don't know. I just like Oh, I would play with it. Maybe that's why I didn't like it.

Amanda

It's not a toy. Anyway, so Hurley might also be no pulp, we don't know, but he definitely didn't avoid the pulp when driving into it.

Theresa

Papaya. I really honestly thought the movie crave papaya.

Kip

It was quite the little re redirect or disconnect or whatever that made you think you're on the island with that papaya pile.

Theresa

Yeah, I thought we were on the island. I was like, dang, they're they're foraging and they are preparing for a long trip.

Kip

Yeah, I thought they were gonna shoot it or explode it or something.

Theresa

Yeah, I thought they were like, we're gonna get on a boat, might as well get all the papaya we can get.

Kip

On the boat?

Theresa

Long trip.

Amanda

That's Jack Bender's magic for you. I have no doubt in my mind.

Theresa

Yeah.

Amanda

That direction, right?

Kip

I believe it.

Theresa

Yeah, yeah. Um so that's where we started. Yeah, and then we find out that's Hurley. It's Hurley, and Hurley's driving crazy, and he's got 10 police cars chasing him.

Kip

I think we I think we do find out why they're chasing him, and it's not because I that went through my mind too. I'm like, what did he do? He just did he not pay or something, or did he knock over the rack? So they called the cops. But we do find out why the cops are chasing him.

Theresa

We do?

Kip

Yeah.

Theresa

In this episode?

Kip

No, no, no. Throughout the season. Okay.

Theresa

Yeah. That makes more sense because I was like, I missed it then.

Amanda

But like they just use the fact that he was in that store freaking out as part of it.

Kip

Oh, okay, okay. Gotcha. Gotcha. I think yeah, that's just part of the investigation.

Theresa

Oh, okay. Gotcha.

Amanda

They're looking for him for um a reason. So there already within the first like three minutes of the episode, we've learned some important information, which is that Hurley is also

Oceanic Six Clues And Hurley’s Lie

Amanda

off the island. Because at the end of the season four, or sorry, at the end of season three, we know we have the infamous we have to go back, misdirect if knowing that Kate and Jack are no longer on the island. Because we're in the future, they have to go back to the island. Yeah, so we immediately learn that Hurley is also off the island by watching Jack watch him.

Theresa

Yes, which makes the end of this episode even more interesting because they are on opposite camps. Yes.

Kip

I know. And Hurley apologizes for it.

Amanda

So he must know that something went awry. But we also learn in that little tiny clip that he's one of six.

Kip

There's three more.

Amanda

So there has to be three more people. So it's very interesting because a lot, one of the biggest things people have always complained about the show is like just little tidbits of information not finding out. But we're already like five minutes, not even five minutes into the episode, and we've learned valuable information that will take some time to explore further. But I was like hooked, I was like already like, oh my god, that's we've already seen half of the people that got off the island. We don't know how or why, but we're we're getting some stuff.

Kip

Teresa, do you know who the other three are?

Theresa

How's the other surrogate? Who does not of people who have not watched before? Um, even though I have watched, I do not remember. Yeah. Okay. So when he says one's annoying, but okay.

Amanda

I really hate one one of them. That's kind of like.

Kip

I'm trying to remember, I know the one.

Theresa

I can't remember. Oh, uh no.

Kip

I'm only I'm only remembering one other one right now. Blankin'.

Theresa

I I can't remember any of them. This is why this is why this is it's good to rewatch things and then talk about it in depth because sometimes you don't put two and two together until you watch it again.

Kip

But you're right, Amanda. We learned right away that there's three more, so we're gonna find that out there at the season because uh that's the way Lost works, is it's like a never uh immediate reveal. They got a tease.

Theresa

Yeah, I love a tease. I love some a sprinkling of crumbs.

Amanda

But it it's interesting because you have to remember that, like you said, they start off this episode diametrically opposed with the fact that Hurley goes with Locke and Jack is in theory about to be rescued and removed from the island. So how like it's very interesting to think like not only do they somehow like weave back together, but then some of that crew of all those people, only six of them get home, right?

Kip

I remember one of the other ones now. And I I can't remember if the sixth is the sort of maybe, maybe not.

Amanda

They count Kate's companions. Okay, that's what I thought.

Kip

So then I remember them all. Yeah.

Amanda

Yeah. But not that other person's companion.

Kip

Yeah, yeah.

Amanda

And then there's a f a like a sixth. This is the rudest conversation I've never been a part of. Well, you are kind of a part of it. You just don't know.

Theresa

I'm just on the like the on the outside. You're on the paraphop.

Amanda

Yeah, it'll make more sense. And like you you find out they one of them like right away, like next episode, I think.

Kip

Yeah. Because remember, there's only 14 episodes, so they're gonna get through it pretty quick because then you learn, you see more of their shenanigans and the flash forwards, which is brings me back to your stream of consciousness saying, Oh, it's a Hurley flashback, whatever. And then like you sort of like went through the oh, it's a flash forward. And so this was like the not the introduction, because that was last season, but a continuation of this flash forward, and that's all we get from now on. We don't get any flashbacks ever again.

Theresa

Oh, okay. That's good to know.

Kip

Except for like some really crazy like backstory flashbacks. Okay, okay.

Amanda

I mean, I guess it's technically a flashback if you considered the time that they're off the island to be the present time.

Theresa

Whoa.

Kip

Wait, what? I don't know what you said.

Amanda

I mean, technically, if we considered the Jack Hurley timeline of being off the island as present time, then it would be a flashback for them to the island time when they were thinking about that.

Theresa

Okay.

Amanda

But I get it. They are flash words because that's not how we roll.

Kip

That's not how we roll.

Amanda

I'm just saying.

Kip

So it's a lot. It's a lot at the beginning. So let's let's talk a little bit more broad about some of the characters because it's been a while since we watched, but it's also in your like you were saying, Amanda, it was a while between finale and premiere based on some of the things that were going on with Hollywood at the time.

Amanda

Yeah, we just basically mirrored that gap in our podcast. You guys you're welcome for keeping things.

Kip

It's called consistency. Um, so we see Jack is kind of the same. Yeah at the beginning, anyway. Um Locke is being Mr. Mysterious. Interesting how Sawyer is. I I might be a little bit blurry in my memory, but it was distinct to me today to hear him use no nicknames. He always called Hurley Hugo.

Theresa

Yeah, he calls him essay. He called him essay once.

Kip

Yeah, I didn't really count that as a nickname because it was more like saying buddy, right? Like, and it's not mean, but like he was just he was trying to be there for him. That was so sweet. He was trying to show a little bit of I wouldn't say leadership, because I don't think he was trying to lead in that moment, but I think it was leadership nonetheless, like support. Yeah, support, yeah. And I think it was really nice to see some growth from him continue on and just to see him be more like understanding of Hurley's loss. Uh, and he felt the loss too, like of Charlie. Like you could see it in his reaction.

Amanda

When he when they first found out the look on Sawyer's face was heartbreaking. Yeah, that was so.

Kip

Actually, let's talk about that. When when Desmond comes out and Harley's just on his cannibal. Yeah.

Amanda

And he knows as soon as he sees that little boat and that Charlie's not on it.

Theresa

Yeah. And they're all talking about everything but yeah. And Hugo's just desperately trying to get their attention of where's Charlie? Where's Charlie? Eventually he yells, Where's Charlie?

Kip

Yeah.

Theresa

And no one really has an answer.

Kip

And it's known.

Theresa

Yeah. A lack of an answer means.

Amanda

Well, I think he knew the second he wasn't on the boat that there was no. But that was really I I cried a lot during that moment. That was very heartbreaking. Like you can see that he is struggling with that. Because that is like his, and and you have to wonder if that is why, like, is it's growth on Sawyer's part, don't get me wrong. And I want to talk about his growth a little bit because I think it's important to highlight it at this point, what has happened, like you're saying. But I also think it is a testament to how much everyone, even Sawyer, understands the connection that Hurley and Charlie had. That he's like trying to make sure he's okay and get him to work through it because like he knows it's gonna be such a profound loss for him, right?

Kip

Well, and and and I'm sure he's remembering Hurley also lost Libby.

Sawyer’s Growth And Charlie’s Loss

Kip

Like, that's two big losses for Hurley on the island. And Sawyer's trying to be a friend in this moment, which was really admirable.

Amanda

Yeah.

Theresa

Yeah.

Amanda

And again, so you know, we uh we do try not to do spoilers, and uh we'll continue that obviously. But the reality is that I I don't think it's shocking to know that Sawyer's on kind of a trajectory of change. I think it's very important to recognize that that change has already started because there's gonna be a huge catalyst later on uh in Sawyer's story. And I think it's important because I think a lot of people felt at the time that that storyline that's gonna come up for him was why he changed. But I think it's important to highlight that like we're already seeing a lot of change in him before he even gets to that. And I think he he gives he needs some credit for that. Like, because you're gonna later on there's something big that happens in his life and his storyline. And a lot of people are like, oh, that's when he like really started to be compassionate and great. He's starting now, we're seeing it now. That that seems, and even when Hurley pushed back, I feel like the Sawyer of like a season ago would have like got defensive and then kind of like flashed out, yeah, and like backpedaled, being like, Well, then fine, you're fuck you kind of thing, right? Exactly. But he didn't do that.

Kip

No, he just was quiet and just he's like, I'm gonna let Hurley grieve in that moment.

Theresa

I feel like that's how the like whole essay thing came out, because obviously her Sawyer's not allowed to use nicknames anymore because he lost that ping pong game or whatever.

Kip

Right. And I have no clue if we're still within that timeline.

Theresa

I think so.

Amanda

Did you say what day we were on the island even?

Kip

No, because it didn't say anything. Yeah, I mean it would it was 9091-ish last year. Oh, I think we're in the three months. And now it's getting a little I don't think we're gonna get the track as much as we used to be able to explain for Linear is never gonna be our friend anymore.

Amanda

Yeah. Um what was I saying? The nickname thing.

Theresa

Oh, yeah. So he's not allowed to use nicknames. And I think the only time he I think him saying that is like him for a minute like stumbling on Hurley's reaction. Yeah. And like that's about as close as he is to like slipping back into like his usual like, well, fuck you by like using like a hint of a nickname that isn't even really a nickname. It's more

Amanda

like like nice. Yeah. Like like I said, he years ago, like seasons ago, if Hurley was like, I don't need he's like, fine, you're on your own. Like don't come crawling to me if you're upset. But he's just like, okay, let me know if you need anything.

Kip

Yeah, exactly.

Amanda

You know, it's like that's really sweet. It was really nice to see.

Theresa

Then he's like, I'm gonna go tell them to hold up and he's like, no, I'm fine.

Kip

Yeah. He was even like trying to like take care of Hurley in that sense too.

Theresa

And then Hurley gets lost.

Kip

Hurley gets lost and horrifying. Has a nightmare scenario.

Theresa

A literal nightmare scenario.

Kip

Like that cabin in the woods, not great in any so what did you guys think of the cabin?

Amanda

I didn't like it.

Kip

Why? Scary.

Amanda

It's so hard with Hurley to know what's like real and what's not because he has because we're also obviously dealing with his flash forward where he is back receiving mental health support um and seeing Charlie and like things like that, right?

Kip

We've seen episodes where

The Cabin Encounter And What’s Real

Kip

he has hallucinated entire people and relationships.

Amanda

So it's like is it real? Is it grief inspired? Is it island kind of magic? Is it Hurley's kind of losing it a little bit? Is it grief? Yeah like there's so many questions. So I didn't really know and and honestly I did not know that that was Christian.

Theresa

I didn't either I honestly it was like kind of close in my eyes because that was uncomfortable.

Kip

So I I I'm of the belief that he wasn't hallucinating. Right, right. He did see it and it's real and there. But I found it interesting how he didn't tell John he saw it. So like there's a part of him that is still not fully trustworthy of John.

Amanda

Which is fair. Because I I got from that conversation because we get like when John shows up behind him we get a commercial break and then he comes back and they're kind of discussing things and you kind of said in your superconscious and it's how does John know about the not Penny's boat thing? My understanding was that we kind of picked up halfway through the conversation. So that chart or um Hurley had told him that but I agree he tells him lots but he doesn't seem to want to tell him anything that like puts him in a position of being vulnerable in front of John because no one trusts him no exactly I think it's a sign that no one trusts him and even Hurley wasn't there for the knife in the back and even he's I mean I think he was there for the sub I'm trying to remember well he would have known about if he's left already right yeah and even then like that's what Said's still mad about. He's like I still want answers for the and when he said that later I was like that's like not even the worst thing he's done in the last little while it's like Said you have no idea like yeah John's got some splaining to do another thing with Hurley's kind of like flash forward that I I thought was very interesting and again kind of telling is when he's having that conversation with the police officer and he's asking and the police officer is asking Hurley about Analysia. And so Hurley kind of says like I I I don't know that is sorry kind of thing. And again when you're kind of unsure what's going on it's like is he doing that because he doesn't want to like give the officer anything is he trying to be a little bit obstructive with the officer is he trying to just like whatever or is there like a specific reason why he's like denying knowing her so that's like already another kind of like question that's already laid out in that first kind of couple minutes of the episode where it's like we know there's only six of them that got off we know three of them are Jack, Kate and Hurley and Hurley's lying about knowing someone else who is on the island. Yeah.

Kip

So like why and then you kind of get a a a lead into what you're saying by Abaddon saying asking are they still alive? And then sort of this tidbit at the end between him and Jack of like about the lying and and you know all of that which we'll get to but so yeah like we're sort of picking up on these something isn't right about them being off the island even though they're off but there is only six of them but something's not right about it the whole scenario.

Amanda

And like again it's like we're being asked about someone who we already know is dead on the island and then now Abaddon's asking about like are they still alive and we know when they left at least when we leave this episode there's like 30 of them still alive right so it's like what happened it's very interesting. I also thought it was interesting like this Abaddon obviously Abaddon doesn't work for Oceanic. I think that's very obvious but I I found it interesting that that's the cover because it's like you would think oceanic lawyers would have been involved probably prior to whatever situation because it looks like they've been back a while because Jack is like practicing medicine again drinking just doing his thing like and that's so frustrating like of course Jack would walk back in and like have like he's capable of that right like we know Jack's very capable of like pulling himself together and like doing it in a way that like Hurley wouldn't be able to really struggling so which is so so sad because he says to Bernard at the beginning how excited he is to be off the island and not have his money and be free and just like he's feeling so happy that he can leave and hopeful and one that gets crushed a little bit when he finds out about Charlie and then two when you see him off the island he's struggling hard.

Theresa

Yeah he's in a rough spot for sure yeah so sad.

Kip

So Hurley and Jack have a little run run run um reunion and they make their way to the fuselage where we have a meeting of the mines but there's a few other things here and there. Let's talk really quickly about Ben being tied up and Russo smacking him up that was great.

Theresa

Honestly Yas Queen punch that bitch in the face I'm sorry can I ask you a favor uh can you take my daughter that I stole from you away from here get like get bent sir get bent are you kidding are you insane that's what that's what she also said that should have been the tagline for everyone this episode are you insane like and the fact she just hits him I'm like yes absolutely do not even do not even waste your breath on him my god like but like that even that made me kind of uncomfortable because like you know you can't trust Ben ever. Yeah but like he cares about Alex But like is this a lie too is this not a lie are we playing some kind of game what do you know that we don't know like I feel like this whole episode is just y'all don't know everything and nothing makes sense.

Kip

And no one's no one's saying anything I mean this is lost though no one says the full thing no they speak in riddles they speak in just half truths very vague. I mean the show would be over already if everybody just like actually said what was on their mind or what they knew right but so here we we are who we are yeah but that's like that's it in a nutshell and it's frustrating but it's also makes for the drama. Oh yeah right so it's just like and then yeah it was frustrating when Jack just like dismissed Kate talking about the trails fake trails or whatever and and he should have listened to her but I can also kind of understand be like look we're so close do we really want to go on multiple treks through the jungle again like we're we're almost there and I

Jack Vs Locke And The Freighter Question

Kip

that's where he's coming from not saying he shouldn't have listened to her because obviously she was right and he should have listened to her but like him just to be like we're gonna be laughing about this later over tea or whatever on the ship and she's kind of like yeah ha ha okay but she's like I'm still gonna do what I'm gonna do and yeah I thought that whole thing was like just really weird like okay so Naomi's hurt and she wandered off and there's two trails and your immediate instinct is that like it doesn't matter I'm gonna go after Naomi in the way that I think that she's going.

Theresa

I don't know I don't think you're right but like I'm just gonna do what I want haha well maybe it's weird.

Kip

Maybe like a little bit like Amanda the last thing he heard well no not opposite of Amanda the last thing he heard was Kate saying this but before that he had heard Russo say I found Naomi's trail it's over this way and and in his mind he's like oh Russo already found the trail we're just gonna follow that.

Amanda

I'm gonna go with Russo I mean it's interesting because his like reasoning kind of to Kate was like she's hurt she's not gonna be like trying to do false trails and it's like well what if you did stab her yeah so maybe she's like unsure about who she can trust it is strange though like but it's just I think another little like device to show us that like oh look at these two they're so adorable they're always fighting always on the opposite side that they love each other.

Kip

But I also think it's like Jack's like blind sort of confidence in himself yeah that he's he's right in the situation. He can't see how because like why would she do that? Like she's hurt. That's not what she's thinking about. But like Jack maybe if you just like listened for one second to other people and critically thought about it you're right someone just stabbed her in the back in the back and she doesn't know if it's like someone in this group or whatever. But also Jack's blind hatred for Locke he assumes everybody also hates Locke when it's like Naomi doesn't know Locke literally she's never met him if Locke is Locke's personality she didn't even see him.

Amanda

Like it might she might think half the group or more is feeling that way too right like he he it's always going to be his issue right is that he does think him and Locke are the same right they're same the two sides of the same coin. They both fundamentally believe that they are right no matter what and they both have a lot of false confidence like coming from different places right like Locke always needs to think that there's more for him to like justify a lot because of his like shitty well actually it's not that different. They both need to believe that they're more competent have more going on because they have shitty fathers like it's actually they're very much the same.

Theresa

Okay so what was the okay this is the part that I didn't really get so like Naomi wanders off.

Amanda

Our plan is to get her back they need her because when Jack called when Jack's trying to get a hold of the And they say where's Naomi they say and they can't find her they can't find their position because there's something wrong with the phone and Jack essentially says like she's getting what like let me know how to do it. Let me know how to do it. I can help like tell me what to do and they're like no no we need to talk to Naomi and that I think is because they wanted to make sure Naomi was actually okay and wanting them to land. It's more like if I were them it's just me.

Theresa

Maybe it's because I'm lazy and I just assume we're on an island with no real healthcare um that if someone got stabbed in the back, passed out managed to wake up again hobble away and and nobody noticed somehow that this dead body moved um I would just assume that she was going to die in the jungle.

Amanda

But I think they do and that's why they're it's so urgent for them to go and find her. Like what are they they're still not gonna tell that person like yeah she wandered out to the they they would have come up with something else. Like they were just trying to buy time.

Kip

Yeah okay but like I agree it's silly that no one noticed her wandering off or like hey that lady's walking away or whatever so many of them.

Theresa

Yeah that's a little bit of a silly and like the fact that she managed to like like zombie crawl her way away make a fake trail and then climb up a tree and then come swooping down like Spider-Man is wild.

Amanda

That might have been her last little ditch maybe she had too much energy I think on those things like clearly because then she it was sad when she died like I don't like Naomi and I have nothing against Naomi.

Kip

She comes back like we do see more of Naomi in the series yeah but like I don't hate her. No me neither I just like you just she was really nothing yet in the show except that we know she's lying but she might not even know she's lying because like whoever gave her that picture of of Desmond and Penny she could have believed what they told her right like she could be a pawn as well we literally do not know what's going on with the I don't know what's going on with anything to be honest.

Theresa

Like Naomi seems like nice enough ish and like I believed her in the beginning. I was like okay cool and then obviously reason not to believe her because not Benny's boat and then when she you know finds Kate or whatever and then lies about what happened and then dies I'm like so I don't know how I feel about you.

Amanda

But that's because you still aren't supposed to know because the idea here is that other than what we know from Charlie both Loc and Jack could still be right right now. Right? Like Naomi could be trying to help them because her job is to help them and that's why she covered for them like Kate believes it to be right like Kate believes that she's she still helped us she still supported us she still had our back or it could be what Locke is saying which is that's how badly they want to come to the island and get them is that she's willing to like lie to get them there still.

Kip

That's what's so frustrating is like you're right Theresa like nobody knows what's going on or the reality and yet they're so quick to make these fucking decisions of like let's split up he's wrong no he's wrong and like we're gonna split the whole camp up because but no one knows anything and I get Charlie in his final like Hurley speech at in the moment there was really good. It was and it was beautiful and it made a lot of sense but it's also just like it doesn't actually explain anything though. No. It explains that they're not it does explain that they're not saying who they say they are because now they know Penny doesn't know who these people are so I get that but it doesn't explain who they are it certainly doesn't explain or say that they're all coming here to kill everyone.

Amanda

It does not it does not give away to motivation. No and I completely that's exactly what I think is interesting at this point is that we Charlie actually is the one who started all this yeah and his position is because he was lied to he doesn't trust them and all the information Charlie gave is that's not Penny's vote. Yeah and be and Desmond doesn't trust it being anyone but Penny and it is it is weird that they're lying like I I agree you're you should have your kind of spidey senses up at that but again like you said to completely dismiss it one way or the other is wrong.

Kip

Well and you know I'll always almost always not always I'll almost always stick up for Jack yeah but like his whole thing for four three seasons has been his mission is to get everyone off the island. This is the first time they've made communication with someone off the island he's gonna hold on to that makes sense and even even Charlie saying they lied about who they are Jack's gonna be like okay well let's ask them about it then they could still get us off the island.

Amanda

Yeah I think the issue people are having maybe is like you know every time they've encountered an outside group it has ended ended in disaster for them right to some degree. Yeah and so I do think that that part Jack is forgetting right is like he is a little bit almost too hopeful for someone who is so cynical in almost every other aspect of his life but for the exact reason you said which is he actually finally there's like a light at the end of the tunnel for getting what he keeps promising he's gonna do for everyone. And this is where they both fail as leaders because neither of them are actually taking the time to justify and actually like Hurley was gave the most leader like speech this whole episode right that's you gotta like motivate and like instill hope and inspire and Jack and Locke right now are both essentially saying my dick's bigger you should follow me.

Kip

Yeah and that's a problem. And Locke really manipulated Hurley by saying if we don't convince them basically that everything that they believe is wrong Charlie died for nothing. And Hurley just seems because I'm just like why would Hurley so quickly even take into account what like who Charlie is how he died so quick to just disregard Jack and Kate and I think Saeed and and those who stick with Jack it just seems a little and I guess we do see Hurley say I was wrong at the end but like I don't know it just seems so out of character in a sense absolutely I mean I'd like to think that's probably like grief.

Theresa

I mean his best friend he did just find out his best friend died. But I mean here's my question to you guys we are we're on the island. I knew you were gonna ask we're on we're on this island guys Charlie's dead it's raining or by a bit of the the the plane we've got Jack being like let's go and then we have Locke saying no come this way where are you going?

Amanda

My instinct back in the day back when I watched it in 2009 and up until this day to this day despite the fact that I like one of them exponentially better than the others I would stay with Locke oh I would go with Jack I would stay with Locke 100% interesting and why would you go with Jack?

Theresa

Let's hear you who you go with first oh Locke really yeah there's there's just something like it's it's like something doesn't sit right with this whole there's like too many unknowns with going with Jack and

Choosing Sides On The Island

Theresa

it and it makes me like unsettled like I don't feel confident enough to blindly try like I think that I've had three months of like hell I don't know that I can put all my eggs in this basket that we're getting off the island with people that I can't trust. But I what I can trust is my ability to survive so far on this island.

Amanda

And that's what I think Sawyer's reasoning was right is like Sawyer's whole thing is when she's like what are you doing? And it's like what I've always done which is surviving. I think that if you actually look at it from like a logical perspective there is more inherent risk in the moment to their survival to follow Jack. Is there a better chance at this point that they get off the island I think if I was in the I on that island with them I would think it would be with Jack but I don't know at like what cost and I'm just like a baby and I'd rather like go with the devil you know and also um Sawyer went with Locke. So you're just going with Sawyer so I'm gonna go where Sawyer I just I don't know it you just love Jack.

Kip

Yeah I do love Jack. But also what has so what has Locke done to earn their trust oh I'm I'm not going with Locke because I trust him I think that's the problem I get that though but like for me I this guy blew up a submarine which could have got them off the island. Yeah he's lied about everything. Yeah he's lied to them so many he just killed a woman yeah yeah he's crazy. I'm not going like like Rose says I'm not going anywhere with that man.

Amanda

I mean fair and then I think Rose is like that does speak to me as well that would be part of my thinking as well like it would be I would be going with Locke despite it being Locke and it would be hard because I I would be compelled to want to follow Jack like into the dark and I think I would be more like I think yeah there is something sus with those boat people but it's the closest we have to anybody not being from this island.

Kip

And I would like to find out what it is about them that is sus and maybe they still can get us off. That's fair.

Amanda

That's fair I mean honestly I think there should be a third option neither but there isn't like that's what what do you guys what does um Ben this is so deep like you can just go on this for hours but what does what do you guys make of Ben first of all it was hilarious when he's like I'd like to ask permission to go with Locke shut the fuck up Ben I know so much. I'm like Ben please stop speaking is also what do you make of like if you were had made a decision and then you saw that Ben wanted to go with Locke would that make you feel better about going with Locke make you feel better about like because there's so many layers to it right it's like I mean if I Ben knows the island better.

Kip

Some of some of those people don't really know who Ben is. So like but if you do if you're if I was Jack in that moment I'd be like um he's up to something I don't want to go where he's going right that's what I mean yeah he wasn't interested until Locke said we're going to the barracks. Yeah and Ben knows what's there.

Theresa

Yeah he knows that place he knows and he's always six seven eight ten steps ahead of everybody that's what that freaks me out a little bit sus like that's why I think there should be super special option number three which is going with Danielle back to her hobble. Yeah and having your days there's in relationship with Danielle Brusso that's like my number three option that would be the option that I would like to go with I don't want to go with the murderer and the one that tried to shoot the other one in the face. Oh I want to go with the one who Who has survived for 16 years and still looks bomb.

Amanda

Like, do you think that like if Saeed and Danielle just settled on the island, I would just go be their like illegitimate child slash thruple member, depending on what we're doing. I would do anything they wanted me to, 100%. But I don't know. I don't think either, yeah, neither one of them seem to be good options. And sure.

Theresa

That just makes me like when he says that, I'm like, mmm. So my instinct was wrong.

Amanda

No, but it not necessarily, because also not going with Jack is what got Hurley off the island. So something's going to transpire the island between here and there. Whether does that mean he hooked up with Jack again? Or is getting off the island actually not good? But at this point, what would have happened with Jack ended up being backfired, right?

Theresa

But also at this point, I don't know who the other three are. I don't know which camp they're on. I don't know if Hurley changed his mind part way through. Exactly. Turned around and walked away. Like, I don't I don't know. So honestly, like when he says that, I'm like, mmm.

Kip

Can we can we back up a bit um to my favorite line? Are you insane? Jack yelling. Are you insane?

Amanda

That was so good. That was in response to that.

Kip

What did Locke save? Because I just was so entranced by Jack's delivery.

Amanda

That was when he was like, everything I've done has always been in product you guys. And he's like, Are you insane? And to me, like when he said that, I was like, Jack's gonna say something of this. Did

“Are You Insane?” And The Unloaded Gun

Amanda

you I would not have bet a million dollars that it was, are you insane? Like, that's just such the perfect response. There's nothing else to say at this point. Like, are you insane? Are you insane? No, you haven't. How is any of this for the better metaphysical?

Kip

I love it. I love it.

Amanda

That was good and very funny, and also like very like visceral.

Kip

Yeah.

Amanda

But I have to say, I was a little upset when he pulled the trigger. That was that was a very scary moment. I forgot about that. That was really brutal.

Theresa

That's that's like so messed up on so many levels. You know what? I didn't think he would do it.

Kip

I don't blame him.

Amanda

No, I don't blame him. Yeah, I don't blame him.

Kip

And I'm glad he did it.

Amanda

Okay. Discuss the doctor. He's not to do any harm, but okay.

Kip

He said he was going to. He told Kate. I see him again, I'm going to kill him. And he followed through.

Amanda

But I think like I'm a consistent man. We stand. We stand.

Kip

But like I just think it was imp I I think it was important to show how much Locke has fucked everything up for Jack. And I think it was a good release for Jack to be like, I want you dead. And now he knows he hates this man. And everybody knows. Everybody saw. And like, I just like when Locke was like, it's not loaded. Like, fuck you. You you could have been dead this second. And you're like, it's not loaded, obviously. Like, oh, I hate him so much.

Amanda

I hate him I hate him too in these moments, but I do I think that that scene was I don't hate him.

Theresa

You love him.

Amanda

No, I don't.

Theresa

I said that You find him sexy.

Amanda

No, I don't. That is completely inaccurate.

Theresa

Attractive.

Amanda

I just said that everyone as a whole, like, is an it's an attractive cast, is what I'm saying. Um that whole scene though, even from Locke's perspective, I I don't I don't love Locke. I think Locke was wrong. I agree with you completely that where we're at right now, it makes per perfect sense that he would. It's sad to me that Jack has come to the point where he like used to save lives and now he has to take them. But I also think it was important for Jack to know that it wasn't loaded and that Locke never meant to hurt him. Because how would he ever fucking know that at this point, based on everything else Locke has done? Like that that's what pissed me off in this moment. In that moment is like Locke seemed genuinely like confused and hurt. Not so much that like Jack was going to kill him, but that like he didn't trust that it he wasn't gonna hurt him. Like, like he was almost like, it's not loaded. Like I would never. And it's like, what do you mean you would never? Like if you're if you're upset more that Jack doesn't trust you at this point, you're you are insane. Are you insane? Because why would anyone trust you? You have given literally no reason for anyone to trust you. Of course, he's gonna think that's guns loaded. Of course, he's gonna think that you are a loose cannon who at any moment could kill another human being or blow up another escape group. And he took the moment he had.

Theresa

Yeah.

Amanda

Like, sorry, buddy, that's the cost of doing business sometimes. Like you, you've kind of created this. So I think it was kind of important for them both to realize in that moment that Locke really doesn't want to hurt Jack, but like Jack has absolutely no reason to like keep him alive or trust him at this point.

Kip

I don't believe that Locke doesn't want to hurt Jack. I just like if there were bullets available for that gun, it would have been loaded. But didn't he just find that gun in like the ditch of bodies? I think so. And like he tried to shoot himself with it and it wasn't loaded. Or no, it was loaded, but it didn't work. Yeah, the bullets didn't work, right? I don't know. I don't I don't I don't believe Locke. I don't like Locke.

Theresa

I just I also don't believe Locke. I also don't love Locke, but I don't know like I know that we're obviously at a very dire point. Very dire. This point in our island journey. And it's all kind of coming to like kind of a head where like you know, Jack's like, we gotta get off. And Locke's like, we gotta stay, man. Um, but I don't know that we should be just killing people.

Kip

Well, no, obviously you shouldn't kill people, but it's the show and it's It's just you know just leave Loc behind.

Theresa

He wants to say, let him stay, you know, like just just get off the island on your on your fun boat with the with the strangers then like I don't know that or beat or you know, punch him in the face.

Kip

And he did. Which yeah But like Locke has actively thwarted their attempts to get off the island. It's not like Locke's just doing nothing, it's not like Locke is just saying, You guys want to leave, leave. Go for it. So why would Jack then be like, you want to stay, stay? No, Locke is trying to stop them from leaving, and so that's where the like craziness of Jack's fury comes from. Yeah. Like, just let us go. Why are you trying to stop us?

Amanda

I agree, and that is where something that is kind of to the end of the series, I struggle with that piece around Locke the most. And this idea, like he says things like, I all I've done is everything I've done is to like protect you, to keep us alive, all that kind of stuff. And I'm like Well, I don't believe that's true because at a certain point, like you're also the person who like believes he can do anything and tried to like use Boon and um Walt and all these people to like their own things. I'm like you know, I it's one thing, like you said, to not want to leave the island yourself, but you're you are uh this idea that you're protecting everyone. I don't know that you have enough information. It it feels like a little kid who doesn't want to be left alone in the dark a little bit, right? Like you want to stay, he's protecting and you want everyone else to stay with you. I don't know that you know enough to say that it's for their own good at this point.

Theresa

No, and especially if he's not explaining anything, like he's just kind of acting rogue. I mean, I still because I think because I'm just not like I'm never that mad. So like I just don't see the point of ever like shooting someone in the face.

Kip

I mean, I've never been mad enough in my life to shoot someone in the face.

Theresa

But I think like if if I was that mad, like I would maybe like just bend him. You know what I mean? Be the shit advocated. Well, he does after time, you know what I mean? Like time up. Like, I don't know that I would go as far as like killing someone, but that's just me. Like, I'm just not that kind of person.

Kip

As opposed to you and I killed it.

Amanda

I don't appreciate this, like, I mean you do what you gotta do.

Kip

You guys want to kill people? That's you for the record.

Amanda

No, I'm I do not endorse certain policy.

Theresa

I'm talking in terms of Jack.

Amanda

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right?

Theresa

Like, I I understand, like you make like it totally makes sense why he would want to. I just don't know that we should ever get to that point, especially if we are, you know, a doctor. You know, that does break your oath pretty pretty badly.

Amanda

It is also kind of interesting to know that he does have the balls to do it. Like that, like that was like I said, that that scene had to happen because now everyone there knows what both of them 100% stand.

Kip

They know the stakes, right? Yeah, it it it gave everybody what the stakes are and where they are. Umbe he's not really into I for some reason I've had this quote from Seinfeld in my head for days when when Newman, when George gave Newman shit because he's not getting his calzones. And he's like, What do you mean you're not working because it's raining? Neither rain nor sleet nor snow. He's like, That's the first one. And Newman says, I've never been much into creeds. Maybe that's how Jack's feeling. He's not really not much into creeds and oaths right now.

Theresa

And I do try to remember that, like, like I said, we're in it, like obviously, like I'm not on an island. I haven't been, you know, trapped for three plus months with a bunch of strangers, a bunch of people have been dying left and right. Um, there hasn't been someone, you know, thwarting my every attempt to leave. Um, so obviously I don't have that like intense. I just shooting someone in the face, very extreme.

Kip

It would have been gruesome.

Amanda

It would have been a lot of makeup department stuff that they probably can't afford. You know what I mean? Like that's that's that's intense.

Kip

So then so then they split. There's a there's a big moment.

Amanda

And this is one of my most visceral memories of this entire series is this divide. Yeah. And like who went where and what and kids, yeah. Like you said on the board, it's K versus Beach, but like on drugs.

Kip

Yeah, totally.

Theresa

How do we feel about Kate going um to Sawyer? Like, what are you doing?

Kip

Well, she's I think she loves him. Yeah, she doesn't want to leave Sawyer and she's confused because I think she also feels towards Locke how Jack feels, maybe not quite as intense, but I think she feels similarly about Locke. And so to see someone she loves go with this man she hates, yeah, would be hard.

The Split And Claire’s Grief

Amanda

Yeah, yeah. Like I think it is twofold. Like, I think it's A, she doesn't want him to leave because she just wants him nearer, but I think it also is that, like you said, like like that's not who she believes him to be at this point, right? Like, and it was shocking, and I I really truly believe if Sawyer hadn't been a part of like the Hurley Jin, even though Jin stays, but you know, that crew of people trying to like figure out what was going on, he might have folded differently. He he trusts and loves Jack more than he does Locke. That's like definitely. And like I said, that's what I would be more like Sawyer. It would be like in spite of Locke, and I would want, I would want to be with Jack, but I wouldn't want to do what Jack was doing.

Theresa

Yeah, that's exactly it. Like I don't I don't want to be with Locke, but I don't I don't feel good about about Sitch.

Kip

So who's who's who goes with Locke? We got Sawyer, Hurley, Claire, Claire.

Amanda

And that we didn't talk about either.

Kip

That was quite also heartbreaking was when he had to tell Claire and Claire's And I appreciated how he saw Desmond going and Hurley was like, no, I will tell her.

Amanda

Yeah.

Kip

And it was just really, really heartbreaking just to see him break down and no bones. He's dead. Like no bones about it. It was just like, yeah, how else do you say it? Like you it was brutal.

Theresa

And it seems like he had been like he wasn't like obviously wasn't holding it together very well, but like no, he essentially was like trying. Yeah, trying. Like he was pretty much just like stone faced the whole time, like just I'm just gonna go do whatever.

Amanda

Like I said, he was walking over and his heart was like and then it just was crumpling.

Kip

I was like, and like that's when you knew Yeah, I appreciated how like it was written. But Claire doesn't need him to hold it together. You know, like they need to share this visceral sort of feeling of just grief.

Amanda

I love that whole scene. I thought that whole thing was when people started coming in, like you said, Trace, the reunion, and how even Juliet and um Alex Alex were reunited, and everyone was so excited to see each other, and Rose and Bernard have their moment, and this Jin and Sun have their moment, and it felt very personal to all of them. Like Jin and son speak to each other in Korean, Bernard and Rose share a little joke, you know, and then you see Claire kind of walking and looking, and like she already knows, right? It's the same way Hurley knew. Yeah, all that has to happen now is the words have to come out of someone's mouth, right? Yeah, and I appreciated that Hurley was the one who did it, but I did also appreciate that Desmond would have. Yeah, same. Like Desmond did is a very noble man, he was prepared to do the hard stuff. Yeah, so I loved both of that. Like I because I thought everything in that scene was true to everyone in that show. Desmond absolutely would have gone to do it. Hurley absolutely would have been like, This is my job. He would have fallen apart coming up to her. Claire would have been able to read it on his face, and that little conversation would have been all they probably had, right?

Kip

Yeah, no, it was really beautiful, like sad in a sad way.

Amanda

So she goes with him, obviously, because Hurley, yeah, she trusts Hurley now.

Kip

Exactly.

Amanda

And if it's to protect Charlie's kind of legacy, she's gonna go with the exactly.

Kip

And so then we have big mistake. Did Jin and Sun go with Jack?

Amanda

Yes.

Kip

Because I don't remember now. I think so.

Amanda

The only one I'm not sure of is Saeed.

Kip

Right. And Desmond and Desmond.

Theresa

I think they stayed with Jack because I don't stay with Jack. Yeah, Juliet was still there.

Amanda

That's why this is so fucking weird. Like I'm telling that. I don't know how we get from the this episode of season four to the episode first episode of season five. I have no idea.

Kip

What are you talking about? So great.

Theresa

Why haven't it seen the beginning of season five?

Kip

Well, you're gonna find out in 15 episodes, 14 episodes. You got a ways to go, but it's worth it. And then they get back to the fuselage, and it's so funny that you were saying, because I was thinking the same thing you were like, oh man, it feels like forever ago. Yeah. That they did, and then Jack kind of like verbalizes that and um they hear the thunder, but it ain't thunder, it's a helichopter.

Theresa

It's the chopper.

Kip

And then we see someone parachuted, which I also don't think you can parachute from that low.

Theresa

I think no, you would die. You you would well, you wouldn't die.

Kip

No, but that parachute ain't gonna be working it's not gonna deploy.

Amanda

It must be something different though, that like it must be like a low altitude. Like maybe you come out without already out or something.

Theresa

And no, okay.

Amanda

Well, I'm pretty sure we are.

Theresa

Uh yeah, you definitely have to be a lot high.

Amanda

And holy shit, did I forget that's who first came.

Theresa

Oh, not me. And holy shit, did I say George at first in my mind? Wasnewski or whatever the guys last year. Because of the radio. Yeah, because he's like, This is George Wasnnew, and then he comes off and he's like, Jack. I'm like, George? Wait, no, wait, George?

Kip

No. No, it's my favorite character. I know, and then I remember too. Is he actually your favorite really Daniel? I do like we don't learn his name yet, but oh, it's Daniel. Yeah, it's not it's not George. Ain't George.

The Helicopter Arrival And New Faces

Amanda

And I just want to again remind the listeners who are watching this for the first time that can you really recall another show in recent history where your favorite character started in season four?

Kip

No.

Amanda

Or my favorite character of Juliet and Desmond and those people started in three and two later seasons, yeah. Like most favorite characters are from the beginning. You stick with them. That not this show. This show, like you're always on your toes. Yeah, Jackson. Very close second, but which leads me to my disclaimer before we go into your rankings for character rankings. This is the part of the show. For those who are listening for the first time, this is where you're gonna hear people say, Oh, I couldn't keep up with it after season three. I just it went so weird. It was crazy, it was hard to follow. Whatever the words you're gonna see on Reddits and whatever. Stick with the show because as much as there are some moments, obviously every show has, we're still getting new favorite characters, intense storylines, crying through episodes, explanations, exposition, all sorts of stuff. So it's still worth it.

Kip

Oh, 100%. 100%. It felt so good to watch it again. So good.

Theresa

I think it was such a good episode. Yeah, I think so. Like as someone who, like I said, feels like the first time watcher surrogate, because I have the memory of a goldfish. Um like this, like I still want to watch. Like I'm confused as all get out. But like at no point so far have I been like, well, this is too much. Like, yeah, obviously, I know that I like it, and I'm like revisiting why I do, but like I'm still like I want to know these things. Like, I want to know where we're going. I want to know where these people are coming from. I want to know why we have two camps again. Like, I want to know what what Locke's going on about. I want to know what Charlie died for. Like, I want to know all these things. Like, I don't know that I would like give up at this point and be like, oh it's too much. Like, I'm sorry, it was too much when I saw a s pile of smoke grab a human. Like, that was a lot. Like, I probably would have dipped out then if I was gonna dip out.

Kip

Yeah.

Theresa

Okay.

Kip

I mean, I'm ready for the rankings. That's your characters.

Theresa

Um, they're not that exciting because you know, it's an intense episode. At number 12, we have Mr. Benjamin at negative 645. You know, shocker. Then we add in number 11, we have Miss Juliet with 545. Wow. We have Dez at number nine

with 935. At number eight, we have Kate with 1020. At number seven, we have Locke with 1,175. Jin at number six with 1,750, Sun at number 5 with 1,785, Jack at number 4 with 1,865, Sawyer with 2,090, Said with 2,705, and at the top, still our king, Mr. Hugo Hurley Reyes, 3,095.

Kip

Wow. I don't think he's ever coming off that mountain top.

Theresa

I mean, it's hard to say. I mean, I'm it's very interesting because well, I I mean, is it I don't know. Like, he's not my favorite character.

Amanda

Yeah. No, the numbers don't lie. You know, he's he's objectively a good character.

Theresa

But he's such a sweetheart and he's so like Because yeah, because like Ben is one of our favorite characters.

Kip

Absolutely. He's not a good person in the show.

Theresa

No.

Amanda

So like if you're ranking, if your rankings are based on like who's doing good, which usually it seems to be, or who's looking hot, or who's making me laugh today, or no, for sure, but also encompassing the trend is to people who are doing things that we relate with on some level. You're not gonna relate to what Ben's doing. Like the actor is really good. That's why you love Ben's.

Kip

And he is funny, he makes us laugh. So maybe he should get a few more.

Theresa

He gets he gets points a lot for making me laugh.

Kip

Good.

Theresa

Yeah, because he's he does a lot of crazy shit, but like he when he talks, I'm just like, Ben, damn it. I'd like to ask permission to go with Locke. And then Jack laughs. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like, you know, you know he's funny because even Jack laughed.

Kip

Wow. We made it. We made it, you guys.

Theresa

We did it. End of the first episode of season four. We are back into it after a hiatus. We made it from the beginning of the episode to now the end. Successfully.

Amanda

Why don't you tell us what you thought of the episode though?

Theresa

I liked the episode. It was a good episode. I was confused a lot, as per usual. Um, I'm excited to see where it goes. Um is really intense. Parts made me very uncomfortable. I don't really love Hurley episodes, honestly. They're not my favorite. But this one I did not mind. Um, so uh I'm giving it a nine. 8.5, sorry, 8.5, 8.5.

Amanda

I give it a 9. That was what I was going for before. Um and I thought that like immediately we're watching it. It's so good. I I don't know. There's like just something, like I said, I love the divide between them. I know it's like sad, but it's exciting. And I have a lot of I know enough that's happening that I'm excited, but I still don't remember everything, so it'll be kind of still a mystery to some, but I know we're getting into some good stuff. So and it's just great storytelling today and acting, and everyone was on their at their top, I thought.

Kip

Yeah, I give it a nine. Um so good. The division, the divide, this is it. Like this is this they're never good. This is it. Like there's no coming back from this. No, no, this is like the setup. The the the episode's called the beginning of the end, and it truly is.

Amanda

100%.

Kip

Like, this is the beginning of the end. It's and for production reasons, for storytelling reasons, this is setting up the rest of the show, what we have left. And yeah, it's so good.

Theresa

It's interesting that you say that because I'm I'm looking at the board and it says it's like cave versus beach 2.0. And I feel like when we were having that great, you know, conversation about would you be beach, would you be cave? We were saying like a lot of the same things. Yeah. But like now it feels like even more intense.

Amanda

That's what I why I meant. Like it's it's like that, but on drugs. It's like that was like the kind of preliminary, and now we're like into the real game. Yeah, that was like that was like um like junior varsity.

Kip

It's like, yeah, oh, that's so cute. That's what they were worried about.

Amanda

Like, oh, they're gonna be close to the drinking water, close to you when we're gonna get rescued, and now it's like, are we gonna die or live?

Theresa

Are they coming for us?

Kip

Are we dying over here or are we dying over there?

Theresa

Yeah. Which murderer do we choose? The one that tried to blow the guy's face off, or the one that stabbed that? Almost murderer. Can we go with the murderer? Yeah. The stab in the back murderer almost shot a guy in the face. Almost murderer. Which one? Choose your poison.

Amanda

Still better options than what America's facing right now.
