Let's Get Lost with The Oceanic Three
We're your Oceanic Three: Theresa, Amanda, and Kip. Join us as we get in-depth about our favourite television show - Lost! We talk about everything: The Island, The Survivors, The Tailies, The Others, The Myths, The Theories, and on and on and on, but we also talk about how Lost changed the television landscape when it came out and how it still reverberates to this day.
Most of all, though, we always come back to how Lost is primarily a character-driven show. For every myth and mystery, five incredible character stories were told. They were complex, mysterious, beautiful, and sometimes challenging to watch - but the characters and their interwoven lives brought Lost to a different level unlike anything ever seen on television.
We would love it if you joined us as we get in-depth about all the Losties, what makes them tick, why they do what they do, and ultimately - what they're doing on the Island.

Mic Chaos And Friendly Banter
AmandaWe're three best friends, and we love lost, and we love talking.
KipBut even more so, we love talking about lost.
TheresaSo join us for some laughs, good conversation, and let's get lost together.
KipYes, let's do it.
AmandaHello, everybody, and welcome to this week's episode of Let's Get Lost. I'm Amanda, and I'm to the left of me is Teresa.
TheresaHi.
AmandaAnd to the right of me is Kate B.
TheresaHello.
AmandaI don't know why that took me so long to get in your head about what you have to do next.
TheresaNo, I was actually thinking about how we're sitting in kind of triangular, but we're at a circular table.
KipYeah, I feel like I'm being interviewed by you two. It's a circular table, but you're right both right across from me.
TheresaYeah, like I feel like you and I are sitting like very close together.
AmandaWay more than we usually do. I think it's just because mine was my mic was like in this direction already, and I just didn't.
KipYou can move them.
AmandaWe're good now.
TheresaWhat happened?
KipYeah, except that your voices will pick up on each other's mics more.
TheresaOkay, wait, hold on.
AmandaLet's part. Let's part.
KipYou can yeah, you can also move that way.
AmandaI think you have to move more than I do. Oh fuck.
KipWhoa, a little bit of uh rumbling.
AmandaOkay, sorry guys.
TheresaSorry, I'm not gonna be able to do that. You know what? Let's not cut any of this. Let's just show them the mic.
AmandaLet's just show them the behind the scenes.
TheresaThe behind the scenes of me not being able to.
KipA hot boob mic moment.
TheresaYeah, hot boob mic. Except my boobs don't sound that great. I thought it would be more like a bounce, bounce, and it's more of like a whoop woo-boop. Not cute.
KipI mean, no. This is real life. This is real life.
AmandaThis is all happening right now.
TheresaIn real life, my boobs don't sound nice.
AmandaA bounce anyone's do. Um okay. Well, how's everyone here?
KipHere we are. Well, I'm getting over a cold, which has been not fun.
AmandaYou sound good though. You don't sound sick.
KipYeah, this is like the best day yet. So that's good. Thursday, Friday were brutal. And yesterday. That's the worst.
TheresaAnd then it like lingers forever. I know.
AmandaDid anyone get that like crazy flu? I mean, I know the answer because I see you guys all the time, but um I'm glad we didn't get that crazy flu that went.
KipI didn't even hear about this crazy flu.
AmandaFor like January, February this year. Like that was like putting people in the hospital.
KipOh, I didn't know that.
AmandaI know I hadn't heard about it either because luckily I didn't know anyone who got that sick. Yeah, me neither.
KipI it is crazy. I almost went the whole winter without getting sick. I was like thinking about it last week and I must have jinxed it because I'm like, wow, it's like almost middle of March, and I haven't been sick yet this winter. I was just about to think that. Don't think it.
TheresaI I just take it back.
KipI'm screwed.
AmandaIt's still so cold where we are. Like it's we're recording on March 15th.
KipIdes of March.
AmandaAnd it's yes, the Ides of March. Beware. Yes. Oh, I should text my brother happy birthday later.
KipUm and to beware.
AmandaAnd to beware. Um, but it's supposed to be freaking minus 25 tomorrow morning. Like, this is insane, even for us. But it's so sunny. I know. It's so it's like bright, and I like left work the other day and walked outside like earlier than I normally would. And I was like blinded. I was like, what is happening out there? What is the sunshine?
TheresaYeah, because like even driving, like my feet are cold, but then my face is burning. I know. Because the sun is just beaming.
Daylight Savings And Time Talk
AmandaThat brings me to my only other hot take question for you guys that doesn't have to do with loss this week. Okay. What are your thoughts on daylight savings time? Are you for it or against it? It's very, very important news here in Canada. I think probably the US has it too.
KipYeah, it's controversial.
AmandaBut it is very controversial. Why is it controversial? Recently, British Columbia has decided to not do it anymore.
TheresaWhy?
KipWell, they're so I always get a little confused. Like this, right now we're in daylight savings time.
TheresaOh, I never know which one we are.
KipWe've started it. So that means we get longer evenings. Yeah. Yeah. So if we stay on this period, we'll have nice long evenings in winter or in summer, and longer evenings in winter, but dark mornings in winter.
AmandaTill like nine or ten.
KipLike in the depths of December, it would be like nine, ten until you get sunlight. Or daylight. So it's like, which do you pick? I don't want to do this anymore. Like I want them to pick one and stick with it. I don't want but I think they would have to stick with the the original, meaning shorter evenings in summer. Because I don't think anybody wants darkness until 10 a.m. in December.
AmandaAnd it technically the daylight savings if we're getting rid of daylight savings time, it would mean sticking to the fall one.
TheresaWhy are we getting rid of daylight savings time?
AmandaBecause the going back and forth is hard. It's apparently like scientifically proven to be difficult on the human body to like have the time change.
KipTwice a year. It's hard, Teresa. We don't like Teresa.
AmandaI hate this one. Spring Forward. Also, you always had to know that little like limerick who any more kids. Spring forward, fall back, you know.
TheresaI like that weaker than song that says that.
AmandaThat's that's true. But that's all we'll still be there.
TheresaPersonally, I don't care. Wow.
AmandaSee, you're gonna be um asked about it soon. So you're gonna ask me the Manitoba government is doing a survey.
KipOh a mandatory poll survey poll. The results of Teresa will be actually personally coming to your house.
TheresaDo they have an op do they have a middle option where I just don't care?
KipNo, it's gonna come down to Teresa will be the last person, and that vote will be the decision.
AmandaAnd we like that shitty Kevin Potter movie.
KipWhich I saw the preview for again today as I watched the Blu-ray of Lost. Oh, and that'll be you, Teresa.
AmandaIt's gonna be you, but about daylight savings time, and then they're gonna be like, one manet of a woman is set to decide whether we spring forward for eternity or stay fallen back.
TheresaAnd then she says, I it doesn't matter.
AmandaAnyway, I just thought it just seems like I hadn't really thought about it, but it seemed like everyone was already like really primed with their opinions on it. So I was like, Am I the only one who's never really thought too deeply about this? But I do, I don't like the time, I don't like changing it. So I I would it's good that we're starting to talk about these time zone issues though, because we are starting to get into some questions about time.
KipThat's a good trace in this episode.
AmandaTrace is like, I don't even know what you're talking about.
TheresaNo, no, no, I know, I know. I for a second there I was confused, but I
The Economist Setup And Stats
Theresaforgot.
AmandaSo why don't you tell us a little bit more, Trace, about what this episode's about?
TheresaSo we're on episode three, The Economist. It's written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, directed by Jack Bender. Kate and Said go to the barracks to negotiate a peaceful release of Locked Hostage in exchange for getting off the island. In a flash forward, Said's future appears destructive and mysterious.
AmandaYeah, that doesn't really give too much away, which is nice, but yeah, not bad.
TheresaYeah, actually, that's one of the better ones. It's a Kitsis Horowitz episode. Kitsis Horowitz. And then obviously the the amazing Jackband.
AmandaThey really settled the season into like kind of reading like utilizing the same. There's like less. I feel like in the first season it was like almost every episode had like a different director writer, and they really have seemed to have their core.
KipThey've like stuck with the core and just going forward with a few folks.
TheresaAnd I think that makes sense because it takes a while to like figure out who is a good fit and and what really works for the show and and um like the story.
AmandaAnd I totally grabbed it.
KipYeah. So this episode, The Economist, has 8.3 out of 10 on IMDb. The viewership is falling. We lost three million viewers from last week down to 13.76 million. And we had the three Sawyer nicknames that I counted. Freckles? Gizmo.
AmandaGizmo is the one I was thinking of.
KipWhat's the other one?
AmandaI don't know.
KipDo you want to know who it's uh targeting towards? Charlotte.
AmandaOh.
TheresaInteresting. That could be anything.
AmandaWhat does he call Charlotte?
TheresaRed.
AmandaOh, that's fair. I was wondering if that had to be. I wonder if it was gonna be that like on-run.
TheresaYeah, very on-brand. I was like, is it gonna be about our hair?
AmandaIt's not a nickname, but my favorite like little throwaway line was it's mean, but when uh Miles calls Hurley Tubby, oh yeah, and then he says, Oh, good, the ship sends us a new sawyer.
KipSo we're all thinking it.
AmandaI was like, Yeah.
KipAnd we're back to days on island counts at 92.
TheresaSo which is crazy because Jack says, Can't believe it's been a hundred days since I blah blah blah, whatever. Yeah, watch baseball or something. Yeah. And I was like, sir, you're not keeping good count.
KipWhy might have just been might have been a week off? He watched baseball a week before he took off.
TheresaWould you would anyone I guess I mean if you have nothing better to do, you could try to remember that.
AmandaOr you might have just been like rounding up.
TheresaYeah.
KipOr the website where I find these numbers could be wrong. Who knows?
AmandaI think that sounds about right.
KipBecause it was like 90 at the premiere or the finale of last year. And it hasn't been. Not much has happened. So we'll get you ready for trivia. Do you have your sounds ready? Do you remember?
TheresaAbsolutely not. No, that's not your sound. That's that's like a very grating sound, though. Like I didn't care for that.
Trivia That Changes How You Watch
KipOkay, question number one. What real life item is actually used by Daniel Faraday as his fancy beacon equipment?
AmandaI don't even why are we all looking at it? It just looks like a tripod.
KipBut like what's on top of it? Oh, the actual like the fancy equipment that he puts on there. It looks like a drone is actually just a security camera.
AmandaOh.
KipLike a cheap, like hundred dollar security camera.
TheresaI'm like, is this a drone? Wow.
AmandaI don't know if they had drones back then. They must have. Like maybe not the way that you guys do now.
TheresaBut I don't know. I was like, that was a honky, like a just a big honker of a drone, but guess not.
KipOkay, question number two. What name is on Ben's Swiss passport?
AmandaDo you know? Yeah, you're just trying to come up with a sound? Yeah, I do. Fuck. Wait, I need a sound too. I actually know what it is. I know what it is, too. Well, just make a sound.
TheresaNo, go ahead. Make a sound if you know it.
AmandaNo, I want you to do it.
TheresaNo, you clearly I want to hear your sound. I'm trying to think of one. I can't even think of a quote from this old school.
AmandaWell, it's pretty prescient in this episode, so Dean Moriarty.
TheresaCorrect. Correct.
AmandaThat was good.
TheresaDid you know that? I did. Or were you just kind of stalling? Because it seemed a little weird that you were like I know it, but I'm not gonna do my sound.
AmandaNo, I just because I wasn't sure if you were trying to figure out I didn't want to take away from you getting an answer.
KipSince when okay. Since uh when we got one more question What action franchise inspired Saeed's flash forward assassin storyline?
AmandaWhat franchise?
KipYeah, the producers said that one specific action movie franchise.
AmandaWalled. That sounds like you're gonna say Wally.
TheresaWow. Wow, that's good. I never saw WALLY. Fun fact. Um, is it James Bond? No. Oh, I just kind of assumed had that kind of vibe.
AmandaUm The Born Identity.
TheresaYes, the Born movies. I never saw any of those. Jason Bourne franchise. No.
AmandaOh, Matt Damon's the best. You should. Those are good movies. Well, I don't know. I haven't seen all of them.
KipIs there three of them?
AmandaThere's four.
KipThere's four. Oh, I've only seen the three. Born identity. Born supremacy. Oh, the born ultimatum. Born ultimatum. Yeah.
AmandaAnd then I think they have a new one with someone who isn't.
KipOh, I haven't seen that. Jeremy Runners isn't it. Oh, I like him though.
AmandaI could be lying. This could be Mission Impossible. They're all the same. I love, I do love um the Born movies, though.
KipI've never seen them. So there you have it. Your trivia for The Economist.
TheresaWe tied.
AmandaWe tied.
TheresaWell, I might have lost if you had given the more reality answer.
AmandaUm I think that means it's time for Teresa's stream of consciousness.
Theresa's Stream of Consciousness
TheresaIt's just going to be different every week now.
AmandaI'm really excited. If I made one major observation that was like too Teresa-esque in my mind when I was watching, and I'm like low-key hoping that you actually make a similar observation. What if I don't? I'll tell you either way, but I'm gonna let you know.
TheresaOkay. Now I'm nervous. I feel like I'm gonna disappoint your Teresa-esqueness. Alright, season four, episode three, The Economist. Hi Saeed. I like that he's just watching these conversations. Why is he looking at Naomi? Why hasn't anyone closed her eyes? Oh, there we go. Why'd you take her bracelet off? Who's RG? I thought Saeed said already said, or I thought Said already knew was gonna fly. How can you do that, Said? Okay, interesting. How does this work? How is he gonna do it? Okay, Said episode. He's golfing. Who's this now? Does Saeed not have a golf cart? I don't know how to pick clubs. Does the club make that big a difference? What about their strength and aim? Is this a fair wager? Can people really see where the ball goes when it's really, really far? Oh right, it's not a flashback. Wait, why does that guy look scared now? How long is this post? Whenever they got back. Okay, seriously, does the club make that big a difference? Wait, why is this guy freaked out? Oh dear, why did he shoot him? What's that thing here? What's happening? Did that guy know he was gonna shoot him? Where are we now? Oh wow, he cleans up real nice. Why is he still sitting there if he got his directions? Oh, they're making eyes at each other. Flirting. Don't you need a reservation for dinner? No? Okay. Wow, that was smooth, lady. Oh my god, is he gonna shoot her too? Also, what is his deal? Wait, what are you looking at? Why didn't you go through her backpack? Why was she looking for Diz? I don't get it. Ooh, Kate is not happy that Juliet is going instead of her. Do what? What mission is this? Are is everyone just okay with Juliet just wandering off? Man, site's so badass. Okay, I mean, fair point, Locke. No one wants to carry Ben. Wait, why did we stop? What's this? What am I looking at? Oh dear, Locke doesn't know what he's doing again. Did someone tell him to do this? Hurley's such a sweetheart. I need Locke to settle the fuck down. What sucks, Kate? Okay, Kate, but also touched Jack. She should go with who? Oh, she's sending to her to go follow them. And he's right, Swear wouldn't let that happen. We're playing on the old love triangle. Um, was torture Said's official position title? Wait, why does he care about Locke? Why would he care about that? You know, Said Said's kinda hot when he's all mysterious. Wait, what's happening? Oh, it's the fifth date. Okay, that makes more sense. I was like, did she lead him to her house? Wait, what is she bringing? Oh, your pager. Who's Said's boss? What did he say he did? What job? What does she know? Wait, does she know what he does? Ma'am, five dates and you want him to stay in another country for you? Sounds like you're catching feelings. I forgot about Daniel. What's he up to? What's that pole? Oh wait, it's a tripod. Is that a drone? Kinda big? Daniel's kind of a cute. Kind of a cutie. Why are you hanging up on Minkowski? Hey, what's he doing? What payload? What's happening? Does what kind of stuff? Why did Lapitas back away, but Daniel's not? Your signal isn't clear. Wait, whose clothes are these? Where are we? Oh, the barracks. Someone's left their washing. Gotcha. What's the pounding? Who's pounding? Oh, now a muffled voice. Guns up, baby. Is it gonna be Ben? Nope, it's Hurley. Wow, that's harsh. Uh, okay, fuck you, Miles. Rude? My sweet Hurley. Miles sucks. Wait, what's at Ben's house? Okay. Nice vibes between Frank and Jack. Oh, there's whatever a payload is. What is that? A missile? No, it's not. Daniel, what's happening? Wait, what's not good? What's 31 minutes? Oh, it's Juliet and Desi. Wait, Des didn't go with Locke, he just went off his o on his own? Desi looking foin though. Oh yeah. Okay, what's up at Ben's house? Everything's so sus. What's with up with the books? Oh my god, of course Said would find a hidden book book entrance thing. Everyone's so brave here. I wouldn't would wouldn't just walk into some weird crawl space. It's another closet with money and many passports. Well, I mean, we all knew Ben was sus. What's under the bed? Who's that? Oh, Sawyer. Oh no. It's a trap. Hurley trapped them. Oh no. I do believe that Saeed wouldn't hurt Hurley, though. I wouldn't want to be stuck with Benny never shuts up. Of course they sent Sawyer for Kate. Why doesn't Sawyer want to leave? I mean, also good question. Why does Kate want to leave? I mean, it wouldn't be playing house if you just lived here. Um Annie likes her so much. I mean, I'd play house with him for real. Ooh, locks bring sweet tea? Wait, iced tea. Wait. Isn't American iced tea not sweetened unless it's sweet tea? Anyway. Is Miles with Charlotte? I don't know why we're keeping Ben alive, honestly. Why can't we just kill him off? Wait, what exactly are we exchanging, Said? Alright. Strategically place blankets always necessary after doing the do. Uh what is his job? Obviously, this is a red flag, Elsa. Red flag. Oh, she knows about the crash. Oh, she's in love. She said it. It's a little bit weird that you love someone you don't know much about. Um, he didn't say it back. He did not say it back. Uh-oh, Pager's going off. Time to work your one to two days a year? Oh, she was wearing pants the whole time. Okay. Wait, what's happening? Why'd she have to leave Berlin? Questions about what? What are you talking about? Oh, you're gonna kill her employer, aren't you? Oh, she's figuring out very quickly. She's not freaked out enough about this though. Oh, I knew it. She was way too nonchalant. Wait, what's going on? Oh, they're both being met. Oh, girl, I say you dying. Y'all both messy. Bonin' and killing. Y'all kind of deserved each other. Oh dear. Frank and Dan knew so know something. Everyone wants to be on the chappa. And Said's back with Charlotte. Do they keep leave Kate behind? Was that part of the plan? Oh my god, liar. Kate wouldn't stay. Ooh, smart Saeed. Wait, what work? Okay, Dan is staying with her. Okay, so we have Lapita, Said, and Desi? Okay, good luck all. Be careful everyone. Wait, who else is coming? Oh, Naomi. Oh. Seriously, what's going on with Said and Naomi? Uh, Frankie Boy is a chopper pilot and a plane pilot. Do pilots know how to pilot all kinds of things or do they specialize? Anyway, this feels kind of nice. A little bit uh let's get off the island. But for why? And for what? And what's gonna happen? Still very uncertain. What's I think about? Wait, is this a vet? A shelter? Said what are you doing? Are you okay? God, he's probably lost so much blood. Okay, you have a vet friend to help? Um, oh no. Wait, why are you working with him? How did he get off? He's not like an oceanic six, right? Like what the hell is going on? What people? What happened before? What do you mean? Wait, you didn't kill her boss? Wait, who is they and why is it good? The end.
KipBonin' and killin'.
TheresaI mean, that's kind of their vibe.
KipBonin' and killin'.
TheresaBonin' and killin'. Everyone's just bonin' and then having guns and then shootin'.
AmandaNot everyone.
KipYou asked all the right questions. So many questions. So many questions.
AmandaThere's a lot of questions here. This this one takes a bit of a turn.
Sayid’s Flash Forward And Oceanic Six Questions
KipYeah.
AmandaRight? Because you know, part of it from my perspective, that makes this episode I I I like it a lot. I know we're gonna rate it later, but I was surprised actually to hear it only got 8.3 on IMDb.
TheresaBefore we go too far, I want to know what your thought was.
AmandaOh, I was it was about Saeed looking hot. Like I figured you would mention it at some point. I was just curious as to what stage All stages. See, but it I did not think he looked hot on the golf course. The golf? I didn't I didn't like the like wholesome button-up golfer version.
TheresaNo, I don't mind that at all. You like the rough rough and tumble.
AmandaAnd I like I didn't actually find him attractive in this episode at all until he got to the point where he was like at the opera scene.
KipNo, I found him attractive the whole time. I thought on island Said was more attractive than off island Said. I don't know if his hair was a little too poofy for me.
TheresaI like when he's all like kind of mysterious and like charming, like I find that very sexy.
KipThat part was, yeah.
AmandaYeah, yeah. I don't I I that was actually my like thought was gonna be. I had a thought where I was like, on island Said is hotter than off island Said, and I wanted to see if you had that thought, but it's mainly don't mean kid do.
TheresaI thought all Said delicious, but also when Does comes over that ridge. Oh yeah, he's and he's got his one peck out. Oh my god, one Teresa. He did have one peck out. It was just such a specific observation.
KipI didn't even notice.
TheresaNo one would.
KipI also was like, oh yeah, I guess he just went off on his merry way when you said that. I didn't even think about it.
AmandaWell, we did ask that last episode of each other. We're like, when we were trying to figure out who went where. Because I'm also confused, like, where are the other people that went with like now we're kind of jumping all over, but where are the other people that went with Jack? And where are the other people that went with Locke?
KipSo yeah, the other people that went with Locke, you see some random extra at one point today before they get to the barracks. The lady with the bandana head. And then I assume every Everybody who else went with Jack went back to the beach while Jack and Kate went on their little excursion. Excursion to meet Daniel. And then that's when Said and Juliet showed up, and they're just still sort of together. And now Juliet went back to the beach to get Desmond. So I guess Desmond went back with Jack. Jack. Yeah. Okay. Jack in quotation marks.
TheresaBecause yeah, like it's just not like I was like trying to figure out where everybody was, and then I was like, what where was Desmond in this? Like, was he on the beach?
KipLike, yeah, because I feel like Desmond still very much, even though there's like mistrust about who the people are, he's very much in like somehow Penny might be involved. So I'm gonna go as close to that as possible. That makes sense.
AmandaOr at the very least, he wants to know like what why they would have that photo, right? So like even if it's like being that he's being manipulated by it, he doesn't really care, I don't think, because he needs to know, like you know, he probably has questions about like if she's okay or if what's her involvement, and like are they like yeah, I don't know. That would be freaky. If I was Desmond, I'd be freaked out by a lot of this. Like this is a good episode though, because we do see Saeed's off-island experience is very different than what we've seen so far in the terms of like obviously Jack is trying to get like a normal life back, right? Hurley is obviously struggling, but still like kind of in his own like old kind of ways, right? Because it's he's not a stranger to having experienced mental health episodes. Um, but Saeed, like, why is he again? We're jumping kind of the end, but why is he with Ben? Yeah, but even before that, like why is he killing people? Killing people. Like, I know he had a tumultuous lifestyle before, but this seems like crazy, like so different than what other people are experiencing.
KipVery, very different and out of left field and just like mysterious. Yeah, because it seems like he's an yeah, because I mean the first thing we see is him kill somebody. And I don't know if we ever even find out who that golf guy was, do we? I can't I literally can't remember. Golf course man.
TheresaYeah, I was trying to figure out Evel Evelyn, Evelyn, Evelyn.
KipI mean, we know more about why he's doing what he's doing, but like that guy specifically, I don't remember if we find out.
AmandaWell, and like it's so hard to know because Ben is obviously at the kind of end of it, right? And he's the one telling him who to do this to. And he says kind of him at the end, like, you want to keep your friends safe, right? This is how you do it. But it's like, what does that mean if Ben was actually on the level? Yeah, and then is Ben ever on the level? So, like, whatever actual explanation he's giving, what even would that be? And then as viewers, we have to be like, but is that even does it even matter? Like, there could be the most it could be that these people are actually a threat to the people, or it could be that Ben made it all up to just manipulate Said, right? We don't like and I don't remember what we find out.
TheresaI don't either, and it's really weird to see Said in this like role at the end. It almost feel feels like two completely different people because on island Said is like very confident and he's like, I'm gonna get Charlotte back, like whatever. And then there's like Jason Bourne, Said, who's like very charming, very mysterious, still kind of you know, murder-y. Um, but then when Ben's there, it's like he is like very passive. And I get that, you know, he's like crying and he like killed the girl he may or may not have loved. I don't know what's happening. Um, but he's always been so good at being that like strong. Um like he but he had his own kind of like manipulations and his own kind of persona around that, and now to see him kind of like on the opposite of that is like very weird to see.
KipYeah, I mean, and like literally Saeed says in this episode, I'd sooner sell my soul than trust Ben Linus. And then at the end we see him working for him, so that something huge has happened.
AmandaYeah, like the day he I think he says the day I trust him I is the day I would have sold my soul. Yeah. So I think the idea is that whatever's going on in Saeed's mind, he has sold his soul. And what we've seen is him be exceptionally dangerous and murderous and stuff. So in a way, he has sold his soul, and we and that's kind of what we're seeing, right? But it's all very strange because it's hard because I do know pieces, I do remember pieces of it, obviously. But at this stage, when he says things like to protect your friends, is he talking about Jack and Hurley, who we already know are back, you know, in the real world? Is he talking about like at this point, you know, as a viewer that only six of them made it back, right? And you don't know all of them yet, but you know four of them now.
KipYeah, now we know Said's one of the oceanic six.
AmandaSo the question is, is everyone else dead? Yeah, is everyone else still on the island? And what is it, why how we get there is obviously going to be the course of this season. But it's very interesting that like something is being kind of put out into the universe that isn't truthful, and that's very clear because of the fact that everyone is like not just gone back to live their lives, regular lives.
KipThere's still shit going on.
AmandaAnd when we even leave this episode and we see that Said and Desmond are getting off the island, they're the first people to do it, right? But we know Desmond isn't well, maybe Desmond's numbers. Maybe four or five, or five or six, right? We don't know. Right, yeah. But we don't we do know that right now Jack and Hurley and Kate aren't with Said. So again, even the idea that like Said, sure, we know he got off the island, we're seeing him get off the island. Something is still going to have to happen to get the other people off.
TheresaYeah. Right. Yeah. And like when you say we only know four people, like realistically. If we think it's Desmond, maybe, or like, do we think Ben could be one? Like, how would that even work? Like, I'm sure they have like a manifest of like, you know, so then they'd be like, oh, who's Desmond and who's Ben?
AmandaWell, and that's the qu the problem, right? Is that how do they explain people being there? Right. And they know even because they said there's no Juliet Burke on the on the manifest, and like Frank and them know that there's other people there. They know they're there for Ben. Like it's all very convoluted, but you know, it's just so crazy.
TheresaA lot of questions still that are being that you have to ask at this point.
AmandaYeah.
Locke Loses The Cabin And The Plot
KipSo what do you make of on island stuff? Let's go back to the island. So with especially with like the Jack or sorry, the Locke camp. They're trekking trying to find the cabin. Lock is trying to take them to the cabin and he can't find it. So what do you think of that?
AmandaI I just love I wish someone would recut this, like someone who has skills with like social media and stuff, to make this like an Laurel and Hardy style comedy between like Loc and Ben. What does that mean? Like just like a kind of like goofy, like buddy comedy. Oh, okay. Because Ben is hilarious when it comes to Locke, and he really keeps him in shock in a way that like I need right now because like Locke's office rock.
KipHe's losing it. Yeah, he's losing it.
AmandaLike he's losing it.
KipHe treats Hurley like shit. I was so mad at him when you talked to him. What a douche.
AmandaAnd Ben calls him out on it, right? He's like, he has no idea what he's doing. Guys, waiting. You guys are all following basically a moron who thinks he's seeing like imaginary things, yeah, and listening to a boy who's disappeared.
KipLike exactly. So it's I was though, I was not impressed, but it was interesting how Locke didn't quite take the bait because like Ben was was egging him on a little bit and saying all those things, and Locke just sort of it was like that moment where he could have gone off his rocker, which he usually does when he's called out on it. But he said, Nope, we're so heading to the bracks, let's go, kind of thing. Like it was just like quick little turn, but he didn't get what he was looking for. Um, I was interesting also that Hurley is still not being upfront with Locke about how he saw the cabin. Like he let it slip last episode, but tight lip today, didn't say a thing. So there's still some mistrust there for sure.
AmandaAnd like his kind of saying to him, like, oh, maybe it was somewhere else or whatever, I think is his kind of way of letting us know that like he wasn't expecting to see it here either. So wherever he saw it wasn't here, right? So what does that mean? Like, are one of them hallucinating it? Are both of them hallucinating it? Is it moving?
KipLike what the ash was still there, so like something was there in that moment. So Locke went back to where he was. It's just that cab is not there unless there's just another mysterious ring of ash.
TheresaWhich I mean, on this island, who knows? Would be, yeah. Many things.
AmandaIt is worrisome to me that like Hurley. So I kind of thought at this moment with like how he does like I agree with you that he did kind of like save it to a degree, but it's still there's still cracks showing and like he can't really answer questions, he doesn't know when they're going, when they're stopping, and then he's a dick to Hurley.
TheresaOh, totally.
AmandaSo I actually did I actually did think at first, because you know, you don't remember the minutiae of each episode, right? I actually did think Hurley had been left because him and Locke had just like butt heads and he was like, I'm not following you anymore, you're dick. So I was surprised that like when it turned out that it was a trick.
KipOh, but in the barracks there. Yeah. Oh, I know. I think disappointed.
AmandaI was sad because I was like, he's treating you like garbage, and like you guys, I know that like you said, he's kind of fixed it, but he still clearly doesn't know what he's doing.
KipOh, I don't think he's fixed anything. I just think he just like didn't lose it as easily as he has in the past.
AmandaYeah, but it's like they're clearly still following him and like doing his bidding. And I'm like, what is it gonna like? I understand the Charlie of it, and that's very powerful, I would imagine, to Hurley and Claire. Yeah, and we do we'll get to it, I think, but we'll talk a little bit, I think, about we we know a little bit more why Sawyer is, but even then, like when Sawyer and him are they're walking, and Sawyer's like, Why haven't we killed this guy? Why don't we shoot off his toe? And he's like, because then we'd have to carry him. It's like clearly Sawyer isn't seeing eye to eye with him about how we're supposed to do this. Yeah, Hurley knows he's full of it, and like everyone else seems to just kind of yet they're still kind of doing his bidding, and I don't know what it's gonna take for them to realize he's an idiot.
KipI would have liked some explanation why Hurley partook in that little trick. Yeah, like I don't remember, I don't think there was anything like Hurley didn't say, Well, it was because you know, blah, blah, blah. It was just like, sorry, guys. Yeah, and it's like, well, I don't know. It wasn't believable to me that he would so easily like do that to his friends. It's not like he hates anyone on the other side. So it's just like that didn't really I wasn't keen on that moment.
AmandaAnd I understand that in the moment, like you couldn't show us the conversation between Locke and him because it was supposed to be a surprise. Yeah, but after the fact there could have been like a little conversation of like, don't make me do that shit again, or like something like that, or to show that you know, like he could walk up to him and be like, I'm not gonna do that again, no matter what you've threatened me with, or something, you know, like that, like a little exposition.
KipA little bit more believable.
TheresaBecause Hurley would be the first one to be like, No, man, these are our friends, yeah. Like, I'm not gonna do that. So, like, it's it is weird to think that like he did.
AmandaIt's just so sad to see where everyone's at in their relationships, because kind of going back to before they leave to go do this, like Kate and Jack's little conversation about um her wanting to go and and that kind of stuff, like they're not necessarily perfectly aligned, like you said, when he like tells Juliet to go, Kate's clearly like hurt that she's not his like go-to, and it it has this like kind of like disappointing, disappointed dad type feel to the scene. And I'm like, So they're not clearly still a hundred percent, and Jack also I don't know that he has a full handle on what's going on right now either. Um, but I kind of feel like Saeed does, yeah, and I again I know early in season one we talked about how like it was always this kind of dichotomy of like Locke and Jack, but really Saeed has always probably been the person who should be in charge. And he seems to be the most realistic about this situation too. Like he he's questioning, but not completely throwing the baby out of the bathwater when it comes to the shit people, but he's like attuned to it, but also like not just being like we will do whatever to make it work with Locke. Like, I don't know, he just seems to have the most handle on it. Like the other two are just only seeing their one side, yeah.
KipAnd yeah, so he's coming at it from multiple angles, as you know, he normally does. Yeah, analyzing it from all sides. And I think that's why you want well, that's why he wants to go on the ship to get more information and not just be like it's one or the other. No, it's gray area. Yeah, with all things.
Faraday’s Payload And The 31 Minutes
TheresaYeah, you do not know these people, like it could be any literally anything. And clearly they have some kind of research situation. Yes, that there's like a third component uh to it. So like it's not it's not black and white.
KipI liked when you're like, oh, that's what a payload is a missile.
TheresaYeah, like I was like, what are we looking at?
AmandaIt just I think basically means like whatever they're sending. Yeah.
KipUh well, I figured after that the payload wasn't the missile, though, it was his little timer.
TheresaHis little but like, yeah, but even that, I'm like, why would you send that?
KipLike, what well, there's a reason.
TheresaBut like they knew the reason already, they knew something was gonna happen. Like, how did they find that out?
AmandaI think what we're already able to kind of glean from it is that obviously Daniel Faraday is a genius. He's a physicist. He's a tortured genius, quirky physicist. He's a genius and he knows a lot what's going on. And like, I think to even get to where they are in terms of physically coming to the island, they would have had to have known something was up.
TheresaThat's very clear when he says, make sure you follow this bearing, yeah, no matter what. Only follow this bearing.
AmandaAnd I'm like, so it's more I think a test, right? Of like we know something is up, and I think that is ultimately what him and Charlotte want to do, right? Is they know something's up. There's something off with the timing, right? And the amount of time that passes on the island versus well, the timing is equal to about 31 minutes.
KipYeah. So it's interesting because when this some people picked up on this when um what's her name? Elsa. Elsa gets the phone call or the beeper, whatever she says, you were supposed to call 30 minutes ago or half hour ago. And so like there's this weird connection with like, why would they pick 30 minutes for both or 31? So, like, are we supposed to read something into that? But like, yeah, that that time is very specific, and this like idea that they're there to, like you're saying, do some tests, do some experiments to figure out what's maybe going on, but they know something already, like you said, that to get there alone takes knowledge.
AmandaYeah. So, like, I and yeah, that's exactly kind of the issue, right? Is it like is there essentially if it took 30 minutes longer, or whatever you however you want to like articulate it, for something to get to the island than what they were anticipating? And then we have someone calling her and they were supposed to have called 30 minutes ago or whatever. Are we to take from that that whomever is calling her is on the island?
KipRight. That's the question.
AmandaRight? That's the question. Like, so is her boss someone who's still on the island? Or is her boss completely unrelated to all of this? Like, we we know that's probably not the case if Ben's interested in them. But so that's kind of the question that was raised in this kind of episode is like a lot of questions. Well, yeah, but I I do think that like I I I liked Jack um in this episode in terms of his like ability to kind of step back. Um, and he clearly knows there's a lot he doesn't know. So he is letting kind of people take the lead in different ways, which I think is nice. I did think it was cute. You pointed it on your thing too, when Kate was gonna go and she said, Well, how do you know he's not gonna do what he did to Naomi to me essentially? And he says Sawyer would never let that happen. Yeah, I was like, that's so true, and he knows that. Yeah, like the one thing he always knows he can trust Sawyer with is like to never let anything happen to Kate.
TheresaBut of course, even though Jack is like kind of stepping back from it, he still has to have Cade go.
KipUm, what do you mean?
TheresaLike, yeah, because like he's like, Oh, what was their conversation? Something like, um, how does it feel to be like left behind or something? And then he's like, Well, I'm not telling you to like not go. And she's like, I should go. And I'm like, is this your way of like still finding out what's like happening, even though like you're not there and you're like you know, staying back, but like you have your essentially like most trusted person going off with Said still.
KipI see you're saying even though Jack was told to stay behind, it's like his way of kind of worming his way in, just sending giving her quote unquote permission.
TheresaYeah.
KipBecause like she doesn't need his permission, she could go if she wanted. No, exactly, but like it was just yeah, it was kind of strange just to see her sort of like seek his approval. Yeah, um when it's like, oh, I thought we were kind of past that, yeah.
AmandaWell, and but it makes total sense that Saeed wouldn't want him there. Like when he pointed it out, and he's like, Well, last time you put a gun to his head and pulled the true, that's not very diplomatic.
KipI loved that, it was so good.
AmandaBut yeah, so Kate going, I mean, it it does make sense, I guess, to a degree to have people like do you do you guys okay? So we we get we kind of get through that so it's decided Juliet's going to get Desmond, Kate and Miles, and whatever are going to get Charlotte. Said makes that deal, like, if I can bring Charlotte back, you let me go. And then they go and they get ultimately like trapped by Hurley, Locke, etc. Do you guys think Saeed actually got trapped, or do you think he just knew that would happen and he was okay with it?
KipUh, I don't think he knew. I think he was probably a bit more subdued just because these aren't quote unquote the others, they're they're friends. I don't I'm not sure he knew it was gonna happen. I just don't think he went full Said, or as like Hurley said, you broke that guy's neck with your breakdance move. I saw I saw you do that, but like so I think he like held back a little bit just because it was people they know, but I I'm not I don't know if he like was expecting it.
TheresaNo, I don't I don't think he was expecting it either. I think kind of like what you said, like his guard was a little bit down, because like these are not this is not like Ben camp. Like this is Locke and Hurley and Claire, like relatively quote unquote normal people, because Ben's not. So like you know, he was more just like, let's see what's up.
KipYeah, do you want to know something interesting? There's a deleted scene with Ben no with Miles, Saeed, and Kate at the like Sonic boom fence or Sonic Fence, and Miles uses his like telepathy to predict that it's not on. And then it wasn't, but they cut that.
AmandaWell, that's too bad. That would have been kind of cool.
KipYeah, but I I think I think the reason was they weren't quite sure how they wanted to use his powers or whatever quite yet. So if they did that, that would be pretty like pigeonholing. It's like, oh, very mistake.
AmandaIt would have been a very direct, like, I mean, don't get me wrong, the like ghosty moment was pretty intense, but I think having him actually be like, I can sense that this is an end of being right would have probably tipped them really far into that.
KipExactly. Yeah.
AmandaAnd we're already just getting the like kind of sprinklings of that 31-minute thing, which is crazy alone. Um, but yeah, I don't know. I just I didn't know if I've got the feeling if like he was just kind of because ultimately his plan was to trade Miles for Charlotte.
KipYeah.
AmandaRight. And so he didn't really need to like because I think a lot of I think we're supposed to be kind of left with this idea with Jack talking Lapitas and what we see Sae doing in the future that he's gonna go and kind of either not guns blazing because he did say that's a last resort, but go in kind of trying to force information or force with his specific skill set. Yeah, but really it's actually like quite easy. He just talks to them. Yeah, and they switches and he yeah, he technically tricked Frank, but he technically did what he said he was gonna do. Oh, exactly.
TheresaHe didn't lie. No, he did exactly what he said he was gonna do.
AmandaAnd I love that Frank was like, Yeah, okay, that's fair.
TheresaYeah, Frank's the best.
AmandaYeah, that I mean you okay, yeah, you tricked me, but I mean, my my bad.
KipOnly once. Yeah. So back to the bar barracks, though, Kate and Sawyer.
Ben’s Hidden Room And Fake Passports
KipWell, for two things Kate and Sawyer, and then before they got trapped, Said finding Ben's little secret room. Yeah. What do you want? Talk about first.
AmandaWell, I guess I e because we that happens.
KipOkay. First. First.
AmandaTalk about it, Dean Moriarty. That's that scene.
TheresaOkay, he finds a big closet with a desk in it, and there's money and there's passports, and clearly Ben does a bunch of weird shit like that. It really confirms that like you can't you cannot trust this man, which we already knew. Um, but like him having all this money and like these different passports and all these outfits behind like a what do you call that? Like a hidden room. Yeah, I just like really just obviously there's more here. Like this is not you don't just stumble on this and then you're just like, okay, yeah, I kind of knew he was like obviously like he's parading around as like other people at some point. And I don't know why.
KipOkay. I mean it's interesting because like we've never seen him off the island. No. But like this basically confirms that he confirms that he comes and goes as he pleases, and yet like he's I know we can't trust Ben, but like he's said multiple times to these people, I've never been off this island, I've lived here all my life, and all these things. And it's like, hey, you're full of shit. Look at this. You're you have fake passports and cash.
AmandaMultiple countries need currency from every single country and a passport for every country.
KipWell, exactly. That you're hiding. That you're hiding. Yeah. And so it's like, okay, how is he getting off the island? When is he going off the island? For what purpose? So it's like all these things now. It's like another can of worms, basically. Yeah.
AmandaAnd it's also a little bit of a like, I don't know what the word is, like, kind of like a red herring to whether he's actually off the island with in like a way that he got off the island with the oceanic six quotations. Yeah. Or we know he could have just been off the island and now he's going back to it. Like he could have been coming and going. Like, yeah, was he off the island as a part of that kind of crew, or is he going back to the island in 20 minutes? Like with one of his millions of passports, and we don't know. Yeah.
KipNo, no, and it's so that was a very nice revealing moment of just like more intrigue. And like, yeah, yeah, this is this is again. I I think what they're doing is they're sprinkling in moments to show this whole story is much bigger than the oceanic plane crash. Yeah, and like this is another one of those things, like they're setting up just like with the end of this, about who this hit list is about, and blah blah blah. He's got another name for Said. Okay, so Ben can come and go, what's his ultimate purpose then? Why is he leaving and coming back and faking who he is? Like, this is much bigger than what the first few seasons have been about.
AmandaAnd why is he on the island so much? Is really ultimately what my question would be about all of it, is like, because I I understand they've built a home and they've done all this stuff, but it's like it's still like a very limited, small life there, right? So, like, why does he, if he has all this money, he has all these passports, he's clearly involved in some nefarious stuff. Why has he spent so much time on the island? Like, it can't be just because he likes being the leader of a crew of people, right? Like it there has to be more to why he's kind of chained to this island for whether whatever reason was his choice or someone else's choice or whatever. Like he could be, he could just come to the island once every couple months if he wants, but he's clearly built the life there, right?
TheresaYeah, yeah. I mean, he was in a book club. Wow, he was out of and they got kids.
AmandaAnd raised a child there, and like, you know what I mean? Like, and it's set the level of deception. Like, I was I was noticing too, like when you walk into his house, like he's got like these portraits of Alex on the wall.
TheresaLike, you would think he's just like a normal dad, and they built this like weird normal life there, and then yeah, you walk into this back, yeah, but then his house kind of feels like you remember in Mean Girls how like they lived in Africa and like they had a bunch of like stuff that they brought back. When you look at Ben's house, he's got like a tribal mask on the wall. Yeah, like as much as he's like a normal dad, you're kind of like like, do you travel? Yeah, like what are these like why why is this your decor and everybody else's is very like normal, like not normal, but like very generic relative to yours. Like you've got all these like books and all this other stuff. Like it just kind of seems like everybody gets kind of like very basic generic things, and you have all of these things that like where would you possibly get them from? Because he's special, you know, and have you just been submarining back and forth? Like I don't know.
KipPotentially. Okay, so how about Sawyer and Kate?
Kate And Sawyer Fight About Leaving
AmandaAnother example of how these relationships have gone way too down the drain because he walks in and he's like, shh, and the first thing she does is yell Saeed's name. She doesn't trust him anymore, right? Like she doesn't trust Saeed the or Sawyer the way she used to do, right? Um, but then they do share like this kind of sweet moment, right? And like, can we just say what we're all thinking? Like, yeah, Sawyer, thanks for reminding her of that. Like, what the fuck is she planning to do here?
KipWhat, yeah, why would she want to go back? We've been saying this since the beginning. Like, what's her issue with wanting to go back so bad when you were literally on the run from the law for so long.
TheresaWell, remember she was trying to take that girl's passport for Hotman, and she was like scratching off the face. But now I'm like, now y'all don't have any passports. You're just gonna go and assume that people don't have like your picture on a wall somewhere that says wanted Kate Austin. It's been it's been a while.
KipThey have DNA, like they're gonna check these people over left, right, and center.
TheresaYeah, like it's just yeah, I don't know what her plan is.
AmandaLike, you're gonna play house with Jack and hope that he'll like make a different and like the thing too is like can you really imagine a world where Jack Shepard, like good guy, board certified surgeon, all-around rule follower is gonna like help her continue a charade of being someone else? Like, he's not gonna do that with you. Like, he's gonna be like, go to the police and tell them that you're sorry. Like, you know what I mean? Like, that's what Jack's like.
KipYeah, it's very bizarre. And yes, thank you, Sawyer, for pointing that out. Cause do you not remember Kate? Your life pre-crash?
TheresaThat's why not so good. Also, I think it's interesting. She's because she's like going at Sawyer being like, What are we gonna do? Playhouse? How long is that gonna last? It's like, what are you gonna do off island? Play house or play jail?
KipLike, yeah, like like Kate, why is that bad what you're describing?
TheresaLike, it kind of sounds like your better option is to quote unquote play house with Sawyer in a place where you're safe, not jailed, not on the run. You have food, you have shelter, you have electricity.
KipThere's a there is a smoke monster.
TheresaMaybe she's I mean, they have the sonic boom booms.
KipBut she does does she know what that's for already? Well, yeah, I guess so, right? Yeah, I guess so. That was last season.
AmandaWhat bothers me a little bit about the whole thing is like she did not have a great life to go back to.
KipYeah.
AmandaRight? Like, and again, all she did was run. And so, like, what no one ever really truly understands what her ultimate plan was. Like, but she always just kind of like made these fake lives and then moved on when she had to. And it's like you're finally at a place where like you wouldn't have to do that. Like, everyone here knows who you are, everyone here is okay, okay with it for the lack of a better word. Like, why wouldn't you just like not run anymore? Because I know the only thing that would make me feel better is if I thought she actually had some sort of like catharsis inside of herself where she was like, No, I have to go back and like face yeah, but we haven't, and I'm not saying that isn't coming at some point, it may, but we haven't seen it. It's not, we're not there yet.
KipNo, and we've certainly not heard her say anything.
TheresaNo, there's no evidence of that.
AmandaLike, I would have thought something more on brand for her would have been like Jack pushing her to come back and like saying, We will figure it out and we will work it out and like don't hide anymore, and I'm gonna be beside you the whole time, and it's time to face the music and her kind of like reckoning with that. But the only person who's really actually told her anything like it is is Sawyer, and it's to say, like, let's stay here and like have a life together.
KipWhich was like seems kind of appealing, not gonna lie.
TheresaI'm honestly I would say yes.
AmandaUltimately, it does seem that it was appealing. Well, right now at least. We don't know why she stayed because we don't see her again, but she does ultimately stay with Sawyer, right?
KipYeah. In that moment.
AmandaAnd you said when you're in your stream of consciousness, so I'm curious to think what you think. Hear what you think, I should say. Because in your stream of consciousness, when she stayed, you kind of said, Yeah, right, she wouldn't stay. So, what were you thinking when they came back and said you'd said it appears Kate's decided to stay?
TheresaYeah, I don't think so. I feel like there's more to that. Like, Kate is not. Have we ever known Kate to stay anywhere? Honestly, she wouldn't like no, it's just so outside of like my like immediate reaction when it comes to Kate. Kate's Kate is not the girl to stay.
KipKate, don't stay. No, never put ever. She's a she's a runner.
TheresaYeah, she's a runner, she's a truck star.
KipYeah, and then Saeed kind of has his little meeting
Saeed Faces Locke While Ben Smirks
Kipwith John Locke and Ben Ben's in there, being Ben. Good old Ben.
AmandaI'm thirsty.
KipI love every scene with Ben. I wish they were. Give him all the Emmys, give him all the awards. They're the best. He's the best. He's such a presence.
TheresaYeah, like he's such a presence. Like, even when they're walking and they're like, Ben's not even doing anything. He's literally like standing there beat up. Yeah, and they're like, we gotta do something about Ben. Like, well, he's not he's literally can't do anything, but okay. And then he's just sitting and he brings like tea and he's like, Yeah, I'll I'll take some of that. I'm thirsty. Yeah, thanks. Like he's always just there, even though he's like not doing anything, but he's still a threat, he's still a problem. He doesn't even have to speak, he just has to exist.
KipI was just annoyed at Locke for being all like, oh, I forgot you, like trying to be good cops suddenly. Yeah, like I brought you somebody's tea, and I just want to talk. It's like fuck off.
AmandaWell, and again, without really explaining anything to him, yeah, and without being like, I still don't believe he has any like handle on this or control of the situation at all. Like I still feel like when he comes in, there's no like I don't I don't trust Locke in any way. Um there's nothing about what he's doing that makes me think he has any sort of long-term plan, which we know he doesn't, and that he's capable really in any way of doing anything that's going to help them in the long run. And I still feel like Said is the one kind of making moves for him, and he's just still kind of catching up.
KipYeah, Saeed is like three, four levels above Locke, and it's just like interesting when he says, Where's the woman you took? And Locke's kind of caught off guard. Almost like, how do you know about that? It's like Locke, you you don't control everything. Like, just because in your world you've taken this woman captive or hostage, whatever, doesn't mean there's other people who aren't figuring stuff out. But he's like still surprised that someone knows something more than he does.
TheresaYeah, he's definitely got like tunnel vision. It's like it's like very selfish. Like, if I know it and nobody else can. And if I'm doing this, everybody has to follow. And it's like, sir, you don't know what you're doing. You don't know what your next move is. Like, why did you come in here? Like you guys are gonna have a chat and shoot the shit. Like, what was your what was your end game? What was your goal? Like he's turning into well, I mean it says right there, Locke is an asshole. Um he's turning into an asshole, but like a very like confused, like he's kind of reminding me of like off-island lock, where he's just kind of like helpless, kind of hopeless, and just kind of like grasping at straws.
AmandaKind of just sad, yeah, right? Like he's just kind of pathetic.
KipVery pathetic.
TheresaAnd it's sad because like season one lock was so like he was like, I hunt, I do this, I do that. And you were like almost impressed with him. And now you're just kind of like, but like deep down, is this who you actually are? You're just kind of like this lost, kind of sad older band who doesn't know what to do, and you're like hoping that there's a reason for you, and if it's not clear, like you get angry.
KipI mean, yet that that yes, from everything we've seen, yes, that is who he is. Like literally all his flashbacks, all his on island stuff, that is who he is, like unfortunately.
AmandaBut I don't think he wants to be something so much bigger and better than that, and it's like he'll do anything to accomplish that, right? Then that and that's why they're both tunnel visioned in their own way. Like Jack's whole thing is that he feels responsible for this group of people, and his duty is to get them off safe. Like, that's all he wants, right? And it's such a noble goal, but he also like you're not like this, isn't your fault, yeah, right? Like that I think that's ultimately what always breaks my heart a little bit with Jack is he like takes on so much and like takes it so personally, and it's like he's for sure two on the Enneagram, just saying. Um, he like loves this idea of just like saving them all, right? And it's like you can't, and that's why he's a doctor, and that's whatever. But you you might not be able to save everyone, but that doesn't mean you failed, right? Like you've done a lot for these people, and if you aren't able to get them off the island, like you might that might be the reality. And whereas Lost or Locke's whole thing is like tunnel vision is like, this is like there's a purpose for this. There's a purpose for this, right?
TheresaOh my god, is Locke a four?
AmandaI don't know what he is. We should find out what they are. Let's do it. I'm gonna look it up later. I'm sure someone's typed them.
TheresaBecause this whole thing is like, I need I need to be someone, I need to be, yeah, maybe he's a four. I don't know.
AmandaWell, I think for Locke, I think ultimately what it is is that he's just gone through so much that he there has to be more for him. Like he has to say, like, to have experienced all of this, there has to have been a reason. Yeah, right. And like again, it sounds terrible to say, but sometimes there just isn't a reason that shitty things happen to you.
KipYeah, he cannot reconcile that.
AmandaAnd like, if you want your life to have meaning despite all of the bad that's happened, then do something of value. But like hoping that like imagination, like imaginary walt or like a cabin that's moving or Ben manipulating you, or whatever it is is gonna do it. And I'm not even saying that there isn't gonna be something, I'm saying at the point where he is right now, he's not doing enough to help himself, right? Yeah, he's just hoping that like this will all be worth it in the end, and he's taking a lot of people down that road with him, which I don't like.
KipSo back to Jason Bourne slash Said, the hotel room scene with Elsa, the final one.
Elsa’s Betrayal And Ben’s Reveal
KipUm you were shocked when Elsa was sort of playing him. A little bit.
TheresaWell, because first she was kind of but then she was like so like kind of nonchalant about him being like, you have to get out of here, something's gonna happen to your boss. And she's like, What do you mean? What do you mean? And I'm like, I was like thinking, like, if this were me and someone's like, this is gonna happen to your boss, like you should run, I'd be like, What are you talking about? Yeah. And then she like turns on the faucet, I'm like, mm, that's never a good sign. That usually means you're doing something and you don't want anyone to hear. That's that's what that means.
AmandaUsually pooping, but I guess, and her. Yeah, but you know what I mean?
TheresaLike it's whipping out a couple of yeah, it's just weird that she's like upset and then she just turns the tap on. You know what I mean? I'm like, so you're doing something sketchy. Yeah, that's also why are you not more like freaked out? Like I'd be like terrified, but you just seem like kind of like, uh-oh, I'm like d buying time. And I was like, something's off.
KipSo it's crazy to me that Saeed being who he is was caught off guard by her knowing what she knew. Like the fact that he was sent there by Ben, we ultimately learn, to find out when her boss will be in town so he can't kill him or her. It's I don't know, it's just sort of strange to me that he would either fall so head over heels in love with her, but I I guess that has happened quickly in the past that he's blinded to any signs. I guess so. Yeah. So I guess that is what it is, maybe like, because he was very conflicted when he killed her.
TheresaYeah, I mean, and it also could be that like, because we don't know the details of his like missions. All we know is that he was supposed to make contact with her in order to get to her boss. So for all he knows, like I mean, does he know enough about the people that he's gonna kill that like he knows that they're dangerous? Would the people that work for them also be dangerous? Like, or would you just assume like this is just like his what did you say he she did for him? Like his wardrobe?
AmandaNo, I I think that that's what we're supposed to glean from it is that like he didn't know that, obviously, right? But what is weird to me is like I don't think he knows anything. I think he's just trusting blindly that Ben is giving him enough information to like do these missions successfully. So the question more is like, why doesn't Ben know that she's more involved, right?
KipAnd he might because like really, and it takes us so far back to just basically at the end hear Ben say, I've got another name for you. And so I guess that's all Saeed gets is a name and a location, potentially, but then he's willing to put that much belief in what Ben says that Ben can give him a name and Saeed will go kill that person, like insane level.
AmandaAnd to me, that is ultimately the weirdest part about this episode. The time thing is weird, don't get me wrong. And I'm like, what's going on with that? But ultimately, it's like, how did we go from like you said at the beginning, Kip, to I would have had to have sold my soul to trust a word that comes out of this man's mouth to just being given a name with no information and just doing his bidding, right? And it's sad that Saeed was so conflicted at the end, even after he found out that she betrayed him, too, right? And that's like how far he's fallen.
TheresaIt's all very weird though, because like he's like he knows they're coming. So, like, are all these people like connected to each other? Like, what is the connection? And again, like he was supposed to make contact with this person, so like you also got her name, yeah. And like, so it's all very you didn't know she was more involved. Yeah, like it's very, it's a very interesting, very odd.
KipWhat did you guys think of the Ben twist at the end?
AmandaI was mad because I had subtitles on, same. Um and it said Ben speaking when he was off camera. You can kind of tell it was him anyway.
KipAnd it was kind of funny how he like tried to change his voice. What are you adoring her? Yeah. But okay. And then as soon as like they revealed his face, he talked normally. Yeah, I hope okay.
AmandaI hope anyone who's watching it for the first time didn't have subtitles on because in the big reveal is room for you and said, Ben, take your shirt off or whatever, and the subtitles. But not everyone watches them with subtitles like I do.
TheresaBut see, when I was watching, I thought I saw that, but I wasn't sure. Yeah. Because like I was like, because I always have like a notebook, a laptop, so I like just glanced up and I was like, uh Is that what it's on? Is that his friend? Or like did it say vet? Did it say vet friend or did it say Ben?
KipYeah, because he's like in an animal shelters like vet clinic.
TheresaAnd I'm like, oh yes, like a I feel like this always happens in those like mob movies. You like know someone who's like a vet who can like still do medical stuff, but like on animals, but it's almost the same.
AmandaThat's the whole idea of all that. It's like that medical stuff done through the vet isn't tracked as as much. That's why they usually go to a vet. Um, okay, I can't remember now if they talked about this or we just forgot about it. Did he end up actually going to the boss or try to do that? Or no?
KipNo, so you don't find out who quote unquote the economist is. But do you guys have any theories? I mean, I know, Amanda, I assume you remember. Teresa, do you have any theories?
TheresaNo. As per usual.
KipIf you had to take a guess.
TheresaIf I had to take a guess. Okay, it's someone who has m money and someone who speaks German. That's okay.
AmandaThat's okay. I can't think of you.
TheresaI literally can't think of a single person who thinks who speaks German.
AmandaBut it's it's so hard to know like if she was even lying about where he was, so they didn't even try. Like, I would have liked to have seen like kind of a little bit more what happened with that in that moment. Um, or did he just go abandon the whole thing because he'd been shot? Like that could be a thing, or she he didn't just didn't trust that she was telling him the truth of where he was.
KipSo they were they were actually going to do 16 episodes, but then because of the writer's strike, they only ended up doing 14. And there was a few storylines cut short, including expanding a little bit on this economist, including expanding on Charlotte, and actually they were gonna bring Libby back a little bit for a little bit more explanation of her. So there unfortunately we did get some stuff cut that we won't get to see. But we obviously do learn who the economist is eventually. But um, but yeah, it's very nebulous right now.
TheresaYeah, I have no idea who it is.
KipSo and then just that. You know, you you this is where we learn. Yeah, Saeed's fallen so far from Grace, and he's working with Ben, and then that sort of cliffhanger ending where Saeed says something like, I forget what he says, but Ben just says, Oh, yeah. He says, But now they're gonna because he says, I got another name for you. Oh yeah. And Said says, Well, now they're gonna know we're coming for them.
TheresaYeah.
KipAnd Ben goes, good.
TheresaYeah, and I was like, I'm like, why is that good?
KipI don't know. I thought that was kind of lame to be honest. It didn't feel like a good Ben line.
TheresaNo, he wouldn't say he would say something more quirky and fun.
AmandaOr like a joke, like, well, obviously. Or like some.
TheresaUm, what's with the bracelet?
KipUh yeah, they they like match kind of, but when I was looking into it, they just the producers just said it was sort of like supposed to be no big connection, just sort of like a romantic nod.
TheresaOh, okay.
AmandaBecause I was like, I just think the idea is that like it it personalizes these people to Saeed, right? Like, and that's why you know it mattered to him to take her body back and things like that. Like, I think it's kind of show us that like Saeed is this killing machine, and this especially nowadays, he's in this like tough role, but like at the at the heart of it, he still does have a soul, he does still care, he does still have some moral compass and some beliefs and ethics, and that's gonna be very important because Saeed goes on a journey, right? For for that kind of stuff, so and now he sold a soul.
TheresaI wonder what he paid. What then paid.
AmandaLike what's Saeed doing this? Like what how do we get from and we have no and the other thing to kind of remember too at this point is we have no real concept of time.
KipYeah, we don't know when this is.
AmandaNo, that's what I mean.
TheresaLike I don't like there's no frame of reference. Yeah.
KipLike talk about time zones.
AmandaYeah, that's what I mean. That's good.
KipSo Saeed took a turn today, but I'm curious to see where the other characters ended up this a week.
Character Rankings Ratings And Next Week
TheresaAlright, so we have 16 players today. That's exciting. Um, all right, so at number 16, we have Benjamin with negative 645. And tied at number 14. Is that how that works? Because yeah, like tied at number 14, Miles and Charlotte with minus 90. Then at number 13, we have Daniel with 50. Then at number 12, we have La Pedas with 80. Then we have Juliet with 615, Claire with 850, Desmond with 945, Kate with 1,010, Locke with 1145, Jin with 1750, Sun with 1785. Can we just talk about how we haven't seen Jin and Sun all season yet, really? Then we have Jack with 1,925, Sawyer with 2,175, Said with 2,850, and our King Hurley, 3,125.
AmandaI just have to say one thing about Daniel Faraday that I forgot to say earlier. I love the way he talks and how he's like so then like uh like I just though like way his voice is.
TheresaI just love the way he talks so much. It's so normal. I love it so much. I'm enjoying him. One thing that I'm like curious to see because like Charlotte's like, I'm gonna stay and do there's work to be done. Like, you're a paleontologist. What are you digging? Are you digging? Well, you'll find out. What she's looking for something. You know what I mean? Like, ma'am, you did you bring your tools? I don't know. There's not sand here. Maybe I don't know. You're so distrustful of Charlotte.
AmandaYeah. We've talked about how we think it might be a problem you have with redheads. Why?
TheresaWho's the other redhead?
KipIt's okay.
TheresaHave there been other redheads that I don't like?
AmandaPrince Harry.
TheresaI don't not like him. I think he's cute.
AmandaWell, I guess we'll have to see what next week we're we're getting close to something that's very important to the lost fandom. And I don't know, we're gonna have to tread carefully when we get to that. We're only one episode away now, and we promise to keep treatment for those who know what we're talking about, we promise to try to treat it with the respect and love that we all know you're gonna want from us.
TheresaRight, right, right.
AmandaBut before we get there, we have one more episode next week to talk about. Uh Egg Town. So we're gonna see a little bit more into what's going on.
KipWhat's Eggtown? Are we gonna rate the episode?
AmandaOh, yep. First, we're gonna rate the episode.
TheresaWere you just trying, were you trying to conclude?
AmandaYes. Oh, I gotta go. Just kidding. So yeah.
KipWe'll do this real quick. Uh give it an 8.7. 8.5. 8.5. It's good. Okay.
AmandaI give it an 8.5 as well. I I do think they end, like I think it's a little underrated on IMDb. It's a good episode. I I really like the the fact that we're kind of getting like they're just so good at sprinkling in new kind of things without making it super obvious. So the stuff with Faraday. The twist at the end, I think it's very good. Um, and I I like I remember watching these being like, where what the hell is happening? And where who are these other people and all this? So they're doing a really good job of it.
TheresaI ain't even an eight. I also really liked it. Um honestly, I've I've completely lost track of how I've rated the other episodes, but I feel like I like the other episodes more than this one, so I had to rate this one lower. That's really the only reason. Um and it's funny because you're talking about how, you know, you're watching and you know, like they're all they're sprinkling all these things, and like I've already watched the show and I'm still like, what are they sprinkling again and why?
KipWhat are they sprinkling and why?
TheresaYeah, like what am I did I miss this the first time I watched it? Like, what's happening? So okay. It's very interesting.
KipSo next week we'll see what they're sprinkling in about Eggtown.
TheresaAnd what is an Eggtown?
KipVery good episode. Whoa, whoa. One of the best.
TheresaAre we are we being serious?
KipI think I remember it being like one of the best episodes.
AmandaI think this is one of the best seasons. And people who don't like it, literally, I have so many questions for you.
KipThere better not be anybody who doesn't like this season.
AmandaThat's why Eggtown is one of the best ones.
KipJoin us next week. See what you think, Teresa. Bye.
TheresaBye.
